Very strange and loud sounds from P1S

Hi All

Sine a month or so I have P1S and this is my first 3d printer. I like it very much, use probably too much, but this is the hobby

Tell me please, are such sounds normal?

  • Detailed description of the problem

Since the beginning, from the very first start, it emitted strange and loud sounds before every print. I googled and checked plenty of posts about it, but maybe looked with wrong key words, because haven’t found even one video showing the same behavior as from my printer.
Hitting the walls by the head is normal, from what I read, although strange for me. But after this, and after bed leveling, it starts to make a sound like it wants to unleash hell and fly to the moon.
Then it starts to hit walls again, and then goes to starting head position and starts to print normally. No issue when printing.

I recorded the whole process, it takes almost 5 minutes. In the YT video I made chapters to make it easier to see what I mean.
at 1:27 the head hits the front wall for the first time,
at 3:58 it emits this horrible grinding noise,
at 4:14 head heats the wall again.

And I don’t really understand, why fans works for the whole time, it doesn’t make any sense to me.

  • .3mf file (if the file can be shared)
  • Any potentially useful information that is related to the problem

Sounds entirely normal.

The sound at 3:58 is not grinding. The brief high speed motions provide data used for input shaping . A more extensive set of tests takes place as part of printer calibration.

AI on Input shaping: a software-based technique using an accelerometer to measure and cancel out vibrations and ringing in the printer’s motion system, enabling faster printing speeds without sacrificing surface quality. It works by pre-emptively adjusting the signal to the stepper motors, which reduces artifacts like ghosting and improves overall print quality and speed

Oh man, you made me much calmer, I was worried something’s not right and that it might fail.
Thanks a lot and have a nice evening

Yep, what you have there is a properly working P1S. Enjoy

that is fully normal, the “grinding” is vibration compensation, the hitting the wall is just the code

Also chiming in to say very normal. Mine actually smacks the front a little harder, altho it could just be the mic.

If you look around you can find custom “Machine Start” gcode that strips out what bambu SW engineers call “mech mode sweep” aka that vibrating thing that shakes your neighbors walls. You can just run the full calibration from its menus occasionally instead.
