Video Stream Cuts Out After Latest Bambu Studio Update

I’ve noticed after the latest update that the video stream now cuts out after ~15mins.

There is an error message below the blank video stating:
“Temporarily closed because there is no operating for a long time”

I found 1 Reddit thread on it and it appears that users were complaining that their computer wasn’t going to sleep. If that’s the case those users should have turned off their camera/stream.

There doesn’t seem to be a way to re-enable this feature and I’m not sure about others but I’d really like to see it put back the way it was, or at least with an option to enable/disable it.

Same here. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

If you wanted your computer to sleep. All you had to do was click the same button that you used to view the project.

Then the screen saver worked as normal.

Yes I would love to go back to the original way. @Tanklet

right there with ya just happened to notice this as well seems like a pointless “feature” when a user can just put the pc to sleep if thats what they want

Hi @Barryg41,
I handle support for the MakerWorld section. Your issue has been sent over to the bambu studio team for their attention.

I agree, this is very annoying and needs to be optional. Just put an option in settings to turn this off. I get why they did it but give us users that understand how to turn off the video an option to leave it on.

This kind of explains why my PC stayed on overnight before. I’d just manually put the PC to sleep to solve.

Though if we cant have a manual option, it really should only prevent sleep if theres an active print running.

My use case is that i will have the video feed running on my PC while i work on my mac. Glancing over every now and then to check the print is ok has been great since i dont have line of sight of it, but now, having to toggle the video on every 15min has been very annoying.
Just like the reddit post said, its a monitoring tool. its supposed to keep the computer awake so you can monitor it, kinda defeats the purpose if it cuts the feed

Why in the world would they change this. Extremely annoying if you rely on the video to know what is going on. They obviously don’t have enough important things to do. At least make it optional.

Edit: It just dawned on me why they would do this. I’m guessing the video goes thru their servers and this was costing them too much money. So it’s the old bait and switch. Buy the printer with this feature and then yank it away. More shrinkflation.

Yes terrible update. Its not bambu’s job to worry about computers sleeping or not. The old settings were far better. If i leave my cam on its intentional and i do not want it interrupted or turned off.

I agree that this update causing the “temporarily closed because there is no operation for a long time in bambu studio” issue, has impacted my work flow in a negative way. I look forward to a quick fix.

New Bambu Studio version released, with an option under Preferences to “keep liveview while printing”. Sadly this option is OFF by default but at least we can set it.

This is still only half of a fix. I don’t want the camera to turn off ever. Staying on while printing is nice, but not a complete solution.

I agree. Bambu Studio… just put it back to the way it was.

I used it today after putting a check in the box.

It’s working just like it used to.

@sperman is asking for a third option. Which is okay with me too. :+1:

Well, not like it used to. For me at least, the video cuts out once the print is done. That’s fine I guess but how about a “Start video when print starts” option? I actually liked how it kept my PC awake when I had a lot of stuff to print and the video was always on. Now I have to keep going back and clicking the button. Yeah, first world problems but it would be so easy to have an option to just automate the video to start when a print starts and stop when it’s done.

Yeah, that’s a good idea.

You can go to github and ask for your idea to be added to the next update.

Yes, please return the video feed to the original setting, there is no point having this video feed feature if it is not going to remain ON when activated.

I suspect that the video timeout after printing is a way to reduce the load on the Bambu servers. It really does not make much sense to be passing along video streams of thousands of idle printers.

But the timeout should be optional in LAN-only mode.

My printer, my network, my decision.

I am having an issue similar, but different. After the most recent update, I can no longer click on the video feed in Bambu Studio because it causes the app to crash. I have uninstalled/re-installing the application to no avail. I also made sure the camera plugins were downloaded and installed. Does anyone know how to get this to stop happening? Thanks in advance!

I’ve been noticing this for a couple weeks now. I’ve checked the box to “Keep liveview while printing” but it still times out. It’s pretty annoying. Please revert these changes until you’ve got a functional feature.

If I’m streaming on my own network, it shouldn’t even be an issue.
If I’m streaming remotely, I understand that there should be a different option.

Perhaps a few settings for the camera should be made:
Local streaming
Remote streaming
Liveview timed mode(turn off at five minutes)
