Hi folks, in the last couple days I get quite a few low ratings on my models. Because for example light boxes don’t hold together or their print is’t staying on the bed … It is very frustrating because if you have printed it 5 times without problems, get quiet a few 5 star ratings and then a 1 -3 star rating because people don’t know how to handle a 3d printer and it’s apparently the designers fault.
People even telling me how to design my models because I would waste too much filament with a 1 mm wipe tower. Keep on moving if you don’t like it…
Now my idea… I think it would be better so see alle the comments a person made on their MW profile. So I a persons rates bad you would be able to see if that persons is always doing that and maybe you will get a better picture of that persons experience. That might help to to print my/your stuff even if there is a low rating.
We may have to banner that models can print properly and if they don’t it’s filament, humidity, fingerprints/oil on build plates, or changed settings or something, and to contact the author if the users have problems. Who knew posting designs would end up turning us into de facto tech support agents for Bambu?
Maybe a disclaimer graphic as one of the model photos since users are likely to see that?
Unfortunately these printers aren’t foolproof yet and many people have problems for all sorts of reasons. It makes sense to them to blame the model creator since that’s what won’t come out correctly for them.
Having some 5-star ratings cannot be grounds to invalidate subsequent low ratings , othewise a model having a few 5-star ratings (even if fake) will forever be 5 star rated.
It can be helpful to show a rater’s rating history. But it’s unlikely that casual users will take the time to check each rater’s history. Maybe MW can show two numbers to the right of the rater’s name, one for number of total ratings, the other average rating). For example, @user_example (12, 4.5). Provide tooltip so users know what these two numbers stand for. Preferably these two numbers are updated each time the the rater’s ratings show.
You are absolutely right…
I’m not a support for Bambu and not a teacher for beginners.
If you have problems, be kind and write what the design problem is and not expect printing tips. There are people wich are much more qualified teaching printing.
I added a general list of printing tips at the bottom of the description for everything I upload. I still get the ‘odd’ reviews, so there’s no way for me to gauge whether it’s working or not.
But I still like to think it has helped a couple of people.
Honestly I don’t know. For me these type of reviews have been few and a minor/funny annoyance at best. A few times I’ve made a new version of the model and posted it specifically for that person. Not necessarily because I thought the original model actually had an issue (it didn’t), but because I wanted to help out that user.
As makers, one of the worst and most counterproductive things we can do is view users as our enemy. That’s not a fruitful or useful way to define the relationship for anyone involved. Unfortunately, it’s super common to experience this in any producer/consumer relationship humans are involved in.
There will always be misguided reviews, or people that are unhappy with your ‘product’. My only recommendation would be to be patient and not take it personally. If the resentment towards ‘them’ becomes pervasive I think it’s useful to do some self-reflection and revisit the motivations behind posting things for public consumption.
While being held accountable for your “review” would be nice, I’d imagine it won’t solve much being a voyeur of sorts. There is little value in chasing proof when its right in front of you, as a Designer you know if the rating is valid or not and the report button is one click away if its incorrect. We can’t control who downloads our stuff, that means exposing yourself to criticism be it valid or not.
I have had bad reviews for petty things such as having a brim turned on or the most recent giggle was someone who didn’t know why there was a tower printed in the corner of the plate when he didn’t download that
A suggestion for makerworld may be a skill rating system for models?
I met some extreamly nice and helpfull people so the users are not my enemy, many of my designs are requested by users.
And if someone will find a flaw i will try to fix it.
But if 20 people give 5 stars and then there is that 1 person that have a problem and blame it on the design.
Maybe i‘m just tired of dealing with stupid people because i have to deal with them at work too.
