To be honest, I already completely lost track of this thread. It feels like there are still a bunch of salty ones that are trying their best to force a square peg into a round hole with the whole Vortek thing.
I don’t think we can expect anything fun from BL in the next 12 months or so (maybe 6 months). They need to prep and release H3 or something similar where they would have a proper response to a tool changer.
Or maybe I don’t know, they would go off the rails and release something different. I did notice that there is a separate materials tab on the store that has surprisingly large selection of everything for something as useless as H2D Laser/Cutter. Maybe they got tired of FDM and want to go explore that, who knows.
Returning to the main topic, the first review videos for the Sovol M1D IDEX & Toolchanger were released, tying back into this topic.
Two heads and 7 nozzles. Whether it’s necessary is another question, but it’s an interesting development - companies are certainly trying to put their own spin on it.
Edit: One of the advantages - I didn’t realize this at first - is that if someone only use two types of filament, the switch takes just 5 seconds (including prime the tower) - inlusvie zero wait (except for the prime tower)
A few months ago the topic of 3D printing Delrin (polyoxymethylene) was being talked about in the forums. Delrin has properties that are very similar to PLA with the exception that Delrin handles heat better than PLA. The Delrin filaments were much more expensive than bars of Delrin. Those who tired printing with Delrin found it very difficult to create suitable parts. Machinists were making the argument that they could machine a bar of Delrin in a couple of hours that could take days on an FDM printer, with the 3D printed version always being inferior to the machined version.
And to think that you insist that you never engage in this type of behavior. Yet here it is, time and again. We get it, your delusions and all. But you must know that it is not at all flattering.

Could you please explain again how this relates to the topic? Discussing CNC machines? Is this just a matter of arguing for the sake of arguing, or what’s the bigger picture here in this context?
Is this leading somewhere, maybe something like: “Bambu will eventually make CNC machines!”
If you keep bringing up the topic in an FDM thread, it must be important to you. You present arguments, but what is the point? Do you want Bambu to start manufacturing CNC machines?

I’m psyched that the sovol looks like its actually gonna launch, and not in too horrible of a beta buggy state. The second full toolhead on the rails is an extra 100 layers of complexity, far above a second nozzle riding on the toolhead. Im still not sold on it being necessary or even beneficial. But hard to argue with a thing that works.
AMS3 is gonna need to have multiple output paths; or bambus gonna lose to features already existing in the market
That is fairly simply solved, because as long as support and part aren’t touching yet, the solver just doesn’t have to worry about order that much yet.
But here you mentioned the next challenge: allowing alignment of the support interface layers to the part. If your support interface has a different material, then you could almost already rule out the dual nozzle printers and only can use 3+ nozzle printers, unless you’re willing to sacrifice a huge amount of material to flush support/part material.
You can stick text on any face of a part(vertical and sloped faces included) so you need to consider/exclude that use case already.
Just walkthrough all the options and toggles in the user interface and think by yourself, if that option needs a specific solution when using mixed sizes?
You will be surprised to see how many those are.
Consider the extreme use case where you decide to print the outer wall with 0.2mm and the rest of the walls with 0.8mm.
And you have a 45 degree sharp angle in a wall.
Imagine how to combine those paths and keep them properly adjacent to each other.
The slicers have already some algorithms to handle that for equal nozzles, but imagine the solution required when the diameters are different.

So yes, try to start simple is definitely the way to go. However, the slightest deviation from a square block, already requires more adaptations for a proper outcome.
As mentioned earlier: It all can be solved, but it will take time, and I sincerely believe that Bambulabs is working on it, but they don’t want to release some crappy solution, that can only print square blocks.

You have something far more complex, that basically has a huge amount of edge cases that need a proper solution before you can print this properly.
I don’t think so. For example, there are printers out there that are faster than BL printers, yet BL has some 35-40% of the market share while these others only have a fraction of that. Numbers don’t lie.
Speed maybe all there is to talk about and think about for some, but easy of use and reliability, two of the qualities that BL printers have, seem to be favored by a much bigger number of users.

The 2025 reports that came out in the last 2 months is the most recent.
I think it is more interesting to look at what we are seeing in stores.
My local Microcenter used to have a whole section for Creality and a few other other manufacturers. Now their section for printers is a joke. They have the entire lineup from Bambu in a row, then a spark X, snapmaker U1, and a CC1.
Of course you can buy others online, but the Bambus are obviously what they are pushing since that is what they are stocking in stores.
