Voucher card and gift card

I noticed the presence of these voucher cards while trying to redeem points on MK.
I thought they had changed the conversion rate from 524 to 500 for the €40 gift card, but then I realized vouchers and gift cards are different things.
Have those vouchers always been there?

What’s the difference compared to gift cards, besides the fact that you can’t use them for orders lower than their value? Can you use multiple vouchers in a single order? Can you combine gift cards and vouchers in the same order?
Are vouchers redeemable from different accounts?

This doesn’t seem fair, if from now on you can only buy a printer or anything else this way. I’ve been collecting my points for a year to buy a printer with them.

I hope they will clarify everything in an announcement.

I think the €40 gift card will still be available and you can use it without limit. The change with the new vouchers is that you can redeem the same amount of money for fewer points, but you will be obligated to spend extra money. So you save points, but in return you have to spend more money.

I am wondering the same thing. The vouchers seem like the worse deal, at nearly the same price as the gift cards. I hope this will not be MakerWorlds way of phasing out the gift card system now they have met their goal of becoming the biggest player in the market.

I truly hope that this is just an extra option and not the start of the end.

completely agree, if they make changes at this point it would definitely make me reconsider my presence setup in makerworld, but i hope that they are just giving additional options, but it certainly looks strange… can you clarify @MakerWorld ?

now there’s a bunch more options:

Well, it depends. If I can use multiple vouchers and I wanna buy a printer for 1-2k€, I probably rather convert to vouchers since they are cheaper.

Umh, the fact that you can redeem different amounts and they cost more points for the money, makes me fear that you can’t use multiple vouchers in a single order… I hope I’m wrong.

yep that’s a given, it will be one of those vouchers per order for sure

as long as they don’t discontinue the old ones, i’m fine with that, but i suspect this is the first step to phase out the current voucher system

If it’s one discount per order then points value of those is worse still with giftcards trumping them - not on points-to-money conversion, but whole value proposition

Well. for what it’s worth, at least the new ones affect shipping prices. before if ordering for say 80€ worth go stuff with two gift cards I would nothing, since my free shipping limit is 50€ to Finland. Now with the new system, it deducts the money form the the sum of your purchase, so me having one old gift card and one new voucher for testing, I had to pay 10€ postage.

These only seem in EU selection atm, maybe a EU law?

People have been asking for larger gift card denominations. I’m guessing this is how they plan to solve that and are testing it in EU.

Do you mean you tried combining the new voucher with gift cards? Have you also tried using multiple vouchers? And is it still possible to cover shipping with gift cards, as it used to be when combining them?

I doubt it. If that were the case, they wouldn’t have to offer the €40 voucher as an option.

Not one I have heard of.

They are currently EU only so far. You maybe the guinea pigs for more expensive redemption plan the bigger the single value redeemed.

Formally, even the 2000€ voucher, has a slightly better conversion rate than the gift card. But the worse conversion rate of the 2000€ over the 40€ ones, suggest there’s may be more limits about their use over orders…

For now, The only stated limitation is that the voucher must be used on orders of equal or greater value.

If there is a 1-per-order limit YOU HAVE TO TELL ME in the redemption page. That would be very dishonest otherwise, and they’d choose the worst market to do such a move…

It would be just as bad if they had done this in other regions. The EU market isn’t special, except for having more regulations and paperwork .

In theory gift card and vouchers have different taxation, maybe they are doing that to pay less taxes and generate more revenue
but i’m not sure about that

From what i have learned, VAT on gift cards should be paid only at the moment of redemption, since they are usually considered multi-purpose vouchers. On the other hand, VAT on vouchers should be paid already at the moment of issuance, when they are single-purpose and the VAT treatment is clear.

Very interesting point. Tried to figure out more about ChatGPT which could of course be wrong, but it came to the result that for Gift Cards the tax has to be paid when the Gift Card is handed out, while on Voucher the tax has to be paid when the order is made.
