Wall generator "classic" losing lots of detail

I have a PNG of line art of an old logo that I’d like to convert into a 3d print. It is a 3 color design (black, red, white) so it should be straightforward. However, I’ve noticed that when I use wall generator = “classic”, most of the detail is gone. If I use wall generator = “Arachne”, then the sliced object looks great. None of the object is actually overhanging. It would be nice to better understand what this setting does in both modes.

I’ve noticed that importing it as an SVG is available, is cool, but has some bugs. I’ll write something up separately about that.

I’m happy to supply the model if that’s of use.

High level talking:

  • Classic is slicing based on the line width setting. If you have several parts with only small width you may can try to lower the extruders line width and see if the slicer is able to still ‘draw’ them (I think standard is around nozzle size)
  • Arachne: Is a dynamic adaption of line width. Normally you see this working mainly for outer / inner perimeters and why inspecting ‘Lines’ of the sliced parts you can identify that it various between half nozzle size up to appr. twice nozzle size (for a recent project i even saw a line width of 0.89 on my 0.4 nozzle).

I’m not sure what the downside might be to Arachne, but I will say that the printer did an amazing job of printing my Arachne-based object!
