Hey guys need some help with my top surface.
I am printing with hatchbox sparkle first time, and running into a wavey top surface on my prints. i had something similar happen to me before when running the bl pla bronze until i read that it needs to be set to a vlow max flow from the defualt 22 in the default profile. I ran the bronze with my calibrated silk and silk setting and it came out great.
current setting
.2 standard print height
top surface width is .28
top surface monotonic
top shell layer 7
internal solid infill rectilinear
sparse infill 10%
top surface speed 60mm
top surface acc 1000mm
I have run a k factor calibration and looks to me like .02 looked the best
i have ran a flow calibration from the standar .98 i ran it down to .931
i am running this with aux fan off
and glass top off door closed
temp 215 to 220
bed temp 65
i have 1600 hours on the printer, i have done a full re calibration and running the latest non beta firmware.
rods have been grease
i have not adjusted belts at all.
What am i doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.
Can I ask how you are cleaning your PEI bed? Often wavey top surfaces like that are caused when there is poor adhesion underneath and there isn’t any layers of infill between the bottom and top layers. Several layers of infill give the excess plastic “bubbling” up from poor adhesion somewhere to go instead of transfering to the top surface. Normally you see this on outer surfaces where the model has warped up. In your case it’s in the middle.
I would also suggest a carbon rod clean and belt adjustment as regular maintenance.

i typically clean the plate with soap and water, then use alcohol for a final wipe down.
the first layers went down clean and i did not see any lifting on the print. i run it with a brim also on these flat prints since i have adhesion issues before.
i have another run finished at home and the middle now looks fine but i think there are some waves towards the edges.
Do you think this is cause by over extrusion at all?
i have slowed down all my speeds to get a better finish so i dont know what else to do.
I will run some basic pla prints later and see if this is thill happening since this wasnt the case until i tried sparkle.
You might also try upping the nozzle temp 5-10c and seeing if that helps. The center of the print on the top layer is probably where the nozzle is moving the fastest. Have you checked your thermal paste recently to see if it hasn’t started to degrade?
No i was going to check the nozzle and extruder next. should i bump the temp up above the default 220 to 225?
