We need a smart prime tower

Hopefully I wont embarrass myself here.
I was printing a 10mm x 10mm cube that was 50mm tall.
Bottom half (25mm) was red and the top half was black.

After slicing, it created a prime tower for each layer as tall as my part.
This seems awful silly and a total waste of filament and time.

Why not just print the part without the tower. Print the bottom half red, then move the head over to the poop chute, purge the nozzle with black, and resume printing. I dont see a need for a prime tower at all.

It’s not automagic, but you can turn it off in the ‘Others’ section in bambulab.

And I embarrassed myself. Thank you!!!

You didn’t, if you don’t know, ask.

Just a thought the tower should have been the height of the red part 25mm plus one layer 0.2mm for the first backwater, it should never have been the full height.

The tower equals the height until colour changes stop.

As you have correctly been told you can disable it and that is the right thing to do if all changes are at the layer height (one colour per layer, no more).

I do this for all my models and they have many colour changes (at the layer).

It is a safe choice. You can experiment with the dimensions as well, I often use 10mm and 10mm even fir complicated models.

No problem. I’m glad it helped and please never stop asking questions.
