Weird glitches any ideas?

So a few weeks and many Kg of filament in I am loving the printing capabilities of this printer after many years creating scrap and frustration from several printers the joy of having everything “just print” really is a breath of fresh air.

whats not so great are what feels like constant buggy glitches from the software and while I have raised a ticket I wanted to see if this was normal and just something I will have to live with or if I really have something wrong as I cant believe its meant to be this bad.

first thing I should note is that when it works - everything works - cloud connection access from external to my network, live view, start and stop printing handy app and Studio. when it works everything id fine which is why I doubt supports first suggestion that its a firewall issue as then it would have fixed problems and things that didn’t work. I get why they have to start with that though.

so what sort of glitches?

streaming error - no idea why the live view works the printer connects but this error is the most prolific showing in Handy and studio most but not all of the time.

random unable to connect to the printer in Handy but can in Studio or vice versa

unable to connect to SD card in handy and/or Studio ( I get you cant to both and am careful to only have one or the other open but this is not the cause) a few minutes later its back working again - no idea why

I get garbage info on current print job both Handy and Studio reported the correct layer and print duration but a completely different file name to the file that was actually printing and the preview image is sometimes correct - sometimes missing and often something completely different to what’s printing.

Is this all normal??

don’t get me wrong… compared to my experiences 3D printing in the pre Bambu world these are annoying inconveniences and quite frankly if the printing side continues to work as well as it has been I can live with these annoyances but given how good this machine is at printing I am surprised that the software side of things seems to be this buggy and its making me wonder if I have something wrong.

here is an example the part being printed is the AMS Riser not Flexi Toothless and streaming error there and not there

Sounds like your memory card is going bad. Is it the one that came with it?

If so I’d recommend getting a name brand 32gb card and format to FAT32. Give that a try and see if it helps.

@johnfcooley

interesting I had similar thoughts and did just that with a 64Gb Sandisk I had spare while this is a known good working card everything locked up and crashed so I went back to the one that came with the machine.

lol its the biggest problem at the moment is the printer is running near 24/7. the current print finishes in about 8 hours so when that’s done I will try another card again.

one thing I thought was strange was I expected the card in the machine to come loaded with some default prints but when mine arrived it was blank. I figured this was just how it came with the P1S however it did surprise me as most reviews mention the card coming with a number of Bambu items loaded on the card

Your card is bad. You need a 32 go formatted to FAT32.
64 won’t format to FaT without help from a 3rd party program.

I formatted the card on the printer I realise windows is a pain with fat32 over 32gb but the Bambu should be good up to something like 2Tb?

Print should be finished soon so will give it another go. Do these things eat SD cards? The printer is less than a month old or is the card its supplied with garbage? Its unbranded but shouldnt fail so soon unless they dont QC check them.

Across the board, nearly all printers come with ■■■■ cards. It’s a way to cut costs. I don’t think I’ve ever had a good card that came with a printer. The worst was the thumb drive that came with a Saturn printer. Failed on first try.

What the printer can accept is irrelevant if it’s not in FAT32. That’s the only file system the printer will read, and by default Win will only format up to 32gb, I’m sure you know. Insider builds of 11 are changing that but I don’t know anything about when they’ll go outside the beta channel. They may have already for all I know.

I doubt there’s any QC by BL. Whomever supplies them probably doesn’t bother, or spot checks.

I don’t put much on my SD. I have a SanDisk something or another at 32gb in mine since I purchased it over a year ago and haven’t had any issues. I would guess any brand that has a reputation of quality would do.

Lol ok thats fair comment. I am generally suspicious of unbranded cards so thats no surprise.

Rufus should handle the formatting over 32gb so will give that a crack as I know the card is good. I formatted it to 30gb in win then reformatted it in the printer so rhat may be the problem as its possibility expecting a bit much from an esp32. I will reformat it properly in fat32 and see if that changes things.

Fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:

The card may seem good in other systems and may even format in the Bambu printer - but those “formats” are I believe just writing out file allocation tables.

Please search the threads here on USB drives. Lots of others have thought their USB drives were fine too. John isn’t just trying to waste your time. He’s trying to tell you something. Maybe your drive is good but it also may not be.

Fair comment, I more meant that its a known quality branded card that worked vs the no brand that came with the printer and I had done something stupid to fudge formatting to make it work rather than doing it properly.

It sounds like the one that came with the printer is at least part of the problem and while my replacement also gave problems that was likely down to me. So its worth a bit of wasted time to format it correctly and see if it works.

Believe me I am not ignoring the advice. Its good and I know how flakey flash memory can be. When I used RPi for home assistant flash card “wear” was a constant battle and one of many reasons i moved away from them.

Iirc Rufus does a better job formatting than just rewriting the tables but I will get a new card on order either way but until it arrives I might as well work with what I have.

Support for NVMe drives was added recently. You can hang a real SSD off a Raspberry Pi now. Huge disk access speedup. The new series has a PCI interface.

They were just bringing in USB SSD when I gave up with RPi I used it as an excuse to finally simplify my life with a Synology NAS and among all the other things it does that like Bambu “just work” it runs my HA in a VM.

One of my better choices

Properly formatting the Sandisc card seems to have worked so lesson learned do it right the first time…

Will be interesting to see what it does over the next week fingers crossed some of the glitches go away…

Damn, well while the Sandisc card seems to work… file transfer from Studio are significantly slower.

New card on the way so will see if that makes the difference tomorrow
