What causes this with white PLA?

hobbiest x1c printing pla -printed the rest of the model with same filament yesterday - no printing legs and ive tried 2 different plates, smooth and textured Pei

I did a cold pull to clean the nozzle

the filament is dry
I keep getting this stuff w this model - yesterday it printed perfect - I just need more legs

Maybe i need to print the first layer thicker ?
Temps 220 and 55 degrees

It looks like the filament is not sticking to the plate…
have you cleaned your plates lately…??

this is 2 sided pei plate - other side is hologram - been using for weeks - no issue cleaned it multiple times and this model is doing same thing

  • this side Ive never used - but did wipe it before this use

How did you clean it?

The best advice is to go back to basics and forget the model. I would start by printing a first layer test and seeing if your filament is sticking to the build plate. If not, then you have a big clue.

The other thing you can try is a different filament profile simply to see if it changes the affect. Have you tried Generic PLA profile. That’s a failsafe profile that prints slow but has all the basic elements.

Here’s how to do a quick first layer test.

  1. Right-Click and create a cube primitive.

  2. Select the cube and select Scale. Scale it to 200x200x0.5MM and center it on the plate.

  3. Print the object and take two photographs to be posted here:

  • The first photograph should be what the object looks like before you peel it off the plate.
  • The second photograph should be holding the peeled plastic up against the light. It should be translucent without and holes.
