Has everyone seen today’s MW update? It’s loaded with great features.
I would like to start with the following two with my thoughts.
7. Download Limit for Anonymous Users
Anonymous user download limit is now set to 5 models, encouraging registration to unlock unlimited downloads and other benefits.
This is great. Allowing non-login downloads is unpopular among designers.
6. New Block Feature
You can now block other users. Blocked users will not be able to interact with you, including sending direct messages, commenting, rating, and following.
This can be a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it can stop rating abusers from doing more damage to a desinger’s rating. On the other, it potentially can have the chilling effect of discouraging users from rating bad print profile or models. Without a true representation of the model/profile quality from users who had printed the profile/model, other users will find out only after printing the same bad profile/models and therefore affect the user experience overall on MW.
What do you think about these two features, or other features in the latest update?
I haven’t seen it yet but like the ones you listed. The people commenting on my stuff have (knock on wood) so far been great and have offered a couple of suggestions I’ve incorporated for them. Hope I never need that feature but nice to know it’s now available if it is needed.
We are still experimenting and adjusting how we’d like to present collections from different users, so feel free to tell us what you think and we’ll choose a way to go which satisfies most users.
Both are steps forward, the Block doesn’t go far enough though and in my view should remove the user from all facets so you can’t see their profile in the common browsing of the models etc. I don’t know if that can go both ways, they don’t see you exist either. Takes the wind out of both peoples argument regardless of who is right or wrong. Maybe the data may indicate if a person is a known problem in future as a bonus for your moderation.
It wouldn’t be smart to allow a user to become completely invisible to selected other users. This would allow fraudulent users to upload third-party designs and prevent the original designer from seeing them.
