What failures should I expect?

I’ve ran my P1S for roughly 300 hours now and haven’t experienced a failure yet. I know that there is an initial “break-in” period, and then a long time of smooth operation, and then failures start to ramp up. How long can I expect to run my printer before I start experiencing more issues? Also, what failures are the most common?

Poorly cleaned bed plates will be most of your issues.
The rest are likely to be filament dependent.

One other thing to watch out for is extruder changes…

I have 1700 hours on mine (had it 6 months) and I have had no major issues aside from normal things like worn out nozzles.

If you clean your teeth regularly you are likely to have a good set of teeth all your life.

Your printer is the same.

This means build plates that will attract finger printer grease, previous print containments and other issues. Clean them when you get adhesion issues and try your best to avoid directly touching them, wipe down between print with a lint-free cloth. These things increase the intervals between cleaning.

When you need to clean the build plate, use the appropriate method found in the wiki.

Rods and belts should be clear of dust and debris, do not wipe these down unless you wish to lubricate them afterwards, just do your best to keep them free of things that will affect their behaviour, a gentle brush with bristles can help.

Your nozzle may wear over time, spares are smart. This is the nature of printing.

Your printer is essentially new with so little time on it. Unless you go out of your way to ignore the things above, chances are, you have only need to clean the build plate. Most of my printers are well over a 1000 hours each, nozzles (my fault) and bed cleaning are my maintenance.

Have lubricants and nozzles on hand for when you need them, invest in lint free cloths and use them, learn to keep the build plates clean and learn to increase the intervals through careful use.

Listen out for noises you haven’t heard before and diagnose before it becomes a problem.

Your printer should last you a long time if you treat it well. Bambu Lab printers work well, unless you had a dud from delivery (it doesn’t sound like it), it should serve you well provided you don’t treat it poorly.

We are lucky that these days, it works more like an appliance than the previous way they were built using cello tape and luck.
