I was away from home for a while and my wife decided to recycle the printer box. So if I ever need a warranty repair (or any type of repair work) what happens? Does Bambu send me another box or do I have to come up with a way to safely ship it to them? I’m sure barring something major I can repair it myself. But I was just curious.
They can send out a box, or you can DIY it - but you’re responsible if it gets messed up.
I agree with @CarbonForge, although here is a bit more information.
Bambu Lab rarely deal with warranty returns for the whole printer, they will usually send a part and have you fit it.
However, if customer support determines the unit must be sent back for a replacement or off-site repair, the rules for packaging and shipping change significantly.
The Right to Use Alternative Packaging
Legally, under United States federal warranty laws, a manufacturer cannot completely void your warranty coverage just because you throw away the cardboard box.
- The Reality: You can ship a warranty repair back in an alternative box.
- The Catch: You assume all liability for shipping damage. Bambu Lab printers are heavy, complex machines with sensitive, balanced motion systems. If the printer arrives at their facility with bent metal rods, cracked plastic frame pieces, or smashed glass panels because it shifted around inside a standard retail moving box, they can legally deny your warranty claim or charge you for the physical transit damage.
They could charge you for a box if requested one to be shipped, but that would be the safest as they have been known to be less than honest about shipping companies, whose responsibility things are and even if they received it.
Always get them to organise shipping or it is on you, they have an ‘out’ you can’t disprove.
Nothing wrong with the printer and have done plenty of repair work on my Core One. I doubt I’ll be in a position where I would need to send the entire printer back. Was just curious.
You are correct to ask.
Your wife is out there saving the planet, could you ask for more?
Bambu offers sending out replacement units under warranty once a deposit to the full value of the equipment in question has been placed.
You can then use that box to return the defective unit. Upon return of the printer, Bambu will inspect the equipment and refund the deposit.
I did that once for a defective X1CC (after running the replacement parts gauntlet of course and getting Bambu confirmation of correct packaging based on pic’s
).
