What happens when skipping flow calib when sending a job?

So, I always choose the machine to do a flow/extrussion calibration on the dialog before starting every print. However I was wondering… If I Want to skip this test, what settings will be used for this print? the last ones tested on this given filament or nothing at all?

If so, How does Bambu Studio links this calibration to this filament? Slot?Name?Type? Are those settings stored in the machine or in the studio (My Guess is the latter).

If you skip “Flow calibration” during a new print : the previous settings will be used.

So that means that :

  • if you are printing over and over from the spool : no need at all to activate “flow calibration” each time
  • if you are printing with an AMS with several spools of same material and PETG (this is my case : 8 spools of PETG from same manufacturer) : there is probably 0 need to redo “flow calibration” each time (your mileage may vary - maybe for some brands, some colors of same material from same manufacturer may vary)
  • if you use a new spool from a new manufacturer or with another material (PETG > PLA, …) it’s probably advised to have “flow calibration” activated

In case of doubt : just keep it, it’s not taking a lot of time / not wasting a lot of filament.
Do a few tests over time by not activating it when using same material in the AMS, and then overtime, just disable the feature when you are sure that it’s a similar spool that you are using compared to previous one.

Thank you for the input. I Agree.

Now, if I skip it and it’s a new filament say I was printing with PETG last time I used the calibration and now I am printing with PLA… Will it still use the old PETG settings that were stored?

Are they slot dependent or simply it uses the last one no matter what?

It just uses the last setting no matter what from what I have read. There has been a lot of talk about possibly storing Flow in the future.

Yes, this is what i was saying : the previous settings are used all the time. Hence you need to know what you are using and what kind of differences there may be between two successive spools (again, even with same branch / same material, there may be minor differences between some different colors).

I let it do a flow calibration only on the first print after turning on the Bambu.
After I don’t let it do the flow calibration no mater what material used from the ams.

When you skip the flow calibration it still prints one line at the front of the plate and one line at the back of the plate.

Maybe displaying the calib-results to be able to note them and reenter those settings when reusing the specific filament would be possible…
