What should we expect next from Bambu Lab?

Its possible, but i would imagine not to a massive degree now that the X2D is sitting in the gap between the P2S and the H2S

X2D hardly fills in the gap. Two more X2 printers are coming.

With some of the competition having AMS’ built in or drastically cheaper, I think a more apt comparison is printer price + 1 AMS, which bambu values the first one you get at $250.

The vortek quite literally doesn’t fit so there won’t be an X2C, they can’t fit a proper toolchanger in there so that isn’t going to happen either

And yes it closes the gap, because the X2D won’t go on sale for a while so when the anniversary sale happens it will be the P2S and the H2S that will likely end up discounted bring the H2S closer in price to the X2D

Do you think we will actually get a mini refresh?

I’m not sure what they would even really update other than the toolhead motor to the servo version they use, and even then i’m not sure it would make any meaningful difference to it other than to increase the cost

Same kind of goes for the full sized M1 but makes a little more sense as its not designed to be the cheapest thing on the market

When I predicted the coming of X2, there were quite a number of people, maybe you included, who were so sure that there is no place for X2 in the new BL printer lineup.

That educated speculation of mine has turned out to be correct. Now are you as confident as before that there won’t be more X2 pirnters coming?

I’m still not sold in its place in the lineup, but even ignoring that looking at the physical dimensions of the machine there isn’t any way to fit a vortek in it due to both the aux fan and the heater taking up that space, realistically there was never really a chance of a smaller vortek based on the existing chassis

So i am still confident we won’t see one of those

What about a Bambu Labs Mini-C, a mini with a 7 nozzle Vortek system /s

I’d like to see an X2D upgrade kit for X1Cs - I guess it would need a whole new X gantry / dual toolhead, plus the external extruder.

I guess it would need to be no more expensive than half the cost of a x2d for it to be worth doing the upgrade.

An upgrade doesn’t make much sense. Which parts would you carry over from the X1C? Almost every part has changed in the X2D. Even all the panels are different. It would certainly cost more than 1/2 an X2D. I think, the only thing they have in common is the outer dimensions.
The P2S has far more in common and even there I don’t think, that an upgrade would be economical.

I’m proposing every part of the X1C other than the X Axis and print head is carried over.

Appreciate though that it isn’t practical - but it would be really nice if you could upgrades X1C to make them more efficient - as its proving difficult to kick of multi colour prints on multiple X1C’s when you have even a single H2C.

While X1C and X2D look similar at first glance,
at a closer look, you will see that most parts aren’t identical.

  • all panels are different,
  • all inner plastic parts are different,
  • the display is different,
  • the Aux fan is different,
  • door is different,
  • electronics are different
  • printhead is different

I don’t know if the steel frame has changed, but I wouldn’t be surprised.

So it certainly is more than just the x-axis. Actually, I don’t think there is much that you can carry over than some screws.

I am only really interested in the dual print head - not getting an exact copy of an X2D - but appreciate that it wouldn’t be in Bambulab’s interest to create a hybrid machine that they have to support - so as you said it will probably never happen.

What I think would be possible and desirable is a 4 head vortek with an “AMS 3” in a P/X sized package. AMS 3 retains 4 spools and 4 PTFE tubes and feeds down to a 4:1 hub with integrated filament sensors right on the back or inside the printer for a super short path to the nozzle. (Or maybe a 8:1 or 16:1 hub?) This allows the filaments to be parked in the PTFE tubes right before the combiner, so their length no longer influences color change times. Simplifies the AMS 3 to a set of motors and a dryer with the 4 parallel paths out. Allows for faster filament changes and brings it into a smaller package than the H2C. Seems within reason…

There isn’t really a market for it, there are already loads of different types of laser cutters out there already so it wouldn’t really make sense for bambu to release one when they aren’t really adding anything
