What soldering iron for m3 inserts?

Hi all

What kind of soldering iron do you guys use for m3 inserts?
At this moment i have a no brand soldering iron.
and a seperate kit for m3 inserts but it doenst really fit.

By using a bit of force i can make it work. But the wrong move and the tip used for the m3 insert comes lose from the soldering iron.

Any advise about a soldering iron and perhaps with an m3 and m4 insert kit that works good together?

You don’t need anything extravagant really. Here’s the LINK to the same one I’ve used for many years now that gets the job done perfectly. I hardly change the tip for the inserts since you can also just use a fine point tip to achieve the same results except you might get some press out when inserting.

that is basicly what i am using.
But i like the m3 insert tips.
And when wrong move and they fall off…

and most of the time they are hot.
So putting them back on is not easy to do.

I am looking for a set that has them included.

Just search for heat insert tips. They have a lot to choose from on Amazon and Aliexpress.

Or this type from Amazon:

Use a press, works better and easy to make or cheap to buy. Those tips will work well too.

I have a Pine64 Pencil for soldering and use a cheap iron with inserts like those listed on a press. If you’re wanting a great press look up Stealth Press. You can source and build it yourself or buy parts. Dozens of cheap ones on Amazon and AliExpress as well.

This is what I use. Makes for perfectly straight inserts. Heats up fast.

I am currently printing the parts for this press right now!

And a simple cheap soldering iron like this holds the inserts very well if you get the hollow tips.

Or the whole kit:

I’ve been using that one as well. Works great.

I had intended to make my own but ended up lazy.
