What the heck happened here?

I printed this Umbreon from my A1 Mini, it would’ve been perfect if it isn’t for the fact the yellow areas have these chunky layers of black in them and its driving me crazy! The photos don’t really do it justice… its a lot more egregious when you see it with your own eyes but you can kinda see what I’m talking about when you look closely at the ears and tail

The filament I used for the yellow areas is Overture PLA, and upon closer inspection on the purged poops the filament is actually translucent, not really the biggest fan but I already bought a giant spool of it so that’s on me I guess lol.

Anyways I know for a fact its definitely not color bleeding given how the red and white look fine. Could it be because I had purge to infill enabled in my slicer?? Is there some issue with layering I have to tinker with?? I’m still fairly new to 3d printing so I’d appreciate any and all insights!

Whatever filament you used for the red and white, use that for the yellow too. The yellow filament is definitely to blame here.

Red and White are both Bambu brand. Thing is though… whenever we’re buying filament from there they’d always be sold out of yellow! :sob:

Yellow and black is the worst.

I think it’s color bleeding

But you’re right about flushing to infill so I’d stop doing that too.

I noticed that some yellow filaments (especially off-brand, e.g. I have a glow-in-the-dark yellow which is appalling) show colour bleeding much worse than normal filaments, and I think it’s because the yellow is such a pale colour.

Take a look at the poops, does it look like the yellow is a pure color at the end of pooping? Or is it still dark?

An easy way to test this once and for all is to turn the purge up a lot before switching to the yellow filament. It maxes out at 999 so I also increase the size of the prime tower when using filaments like this.

Maybe try one print with flush to infill disabled, but no other changes, and then another print with flush to infill enabled and massively increased purging?

NOTE: It is NOT RECOMMENDED to enable this option when an object is printed with a totally opaque filament. Otherwise, the mixed-color infill may be visible outside.

I belive it can be similar with dark and lighter colours also

Well, I kinda like it. It adds to the character of the piece. Gives it a killer look–A far cry from its ancestry. :sunglasses:

Its a mixed bag when it comes to the poops. Some are darker, others are more pure. I did have a prime tower enabled though to help with any possible bleeding

That was my hunch that purge to infill was the culprit here, this pretty much gives it confirmation. I definitely plan on doing a second print with it disabled to see how much different it turns out :+1:
