Ran out of the supplied support filament as you only get a small amount. Tried some water dissolving filament but it,s ■■■■. Can anyone suggest a good brand as I don,t want to waste my time or money on ■■■■.

A couple of options:
I’ve not tried the HIPS yet in the X1C. I only just printed my first thing in PVB, but not as a dissolvable. PVB can be “smoothed” by isopropanol, but it also weakens it, so flimsy support should just shed away from the model.
would this work with PLA. I don’t need dissolvable just a strong support material
Ah, but now you’re asking a different question.
If not dissolvable, then I have no suggestions other than the Support W that Bambu supplies. I don’t know of an equivalent filament that is sticky, but only barely sticky enough to act as a support interface.
Yeah found that out with the dissolvable was not strong enough to stay stuck when printing large project. So I guess I’ll wait until they get more in stock.
Thank you for your help
Were you printing just the interface using the Support W / dissolvable, or the whole support structure?
If you can find it in stock anywhere, PolyMaker PolySupport looks to be similar, if not identical. It is back-ordered on their website also, but at least they will take an order to get in line.
To use less, and avoid filament swaps, I’ve been setting up my supports to only use 2 layers of support material, and print the rest of the supports in the same filament as the model.
