Why are these ‘wisps’ for lack of a better word, showing up in my PLA Silk prints. Isn’t the whole point of PLA Silk to have a smoother surface with more sheen?
Well i opened the file.
First of all, why do you have commented the G29? It’s supposed to be on so that the machine makes the bed leveling.
Second, you say you used Silk pla but the profile is loaded with the basic pla and pva only. Maybe one of the problems is there and you used silk filament with the basic settings and so, different temperatures and settings all together.
Also third, the seam was all over the place. Make it “aligned” and it should be better. Try it and report later if you can.
Here’s a sample of Bambu Silk that I had gotten right out of the box. The Wiki says that one does not need to dry the filament. I will let you judge this for yourself. Guess which one of these test prints came out after the filament was dried?
The commented G29 was from some specific thing I printed months ago that recommended I do that! I had no idea it was ‘sticky’. It’s so long ago, I don’t even remember what it was!
By using all the advice here, I redid the print, and the results were much better.
Another confession I have to make is that this is my first roll of PLA Silk, and I’d say the jury is still ‘out’. While the second print here is better than the first (by far!) I’m still a little disappointed in the ‘banding’ and ‘texture’ I’m seeing. Maybe I’m being too picky, but I feel like, in terms of a glossy, smooth surface, I could get better results printing PLA Basic and then hitting it with a few coats of some spray enamel.
I also saw that Bambu has discontinued PLA Silk and intends to replace it with something “new and improved”, so maybe I should wait for the new stuff before I judge. I certainly make enough junk prints while iterating on a design to use up this one roll pretty quickly.
Regardless, big thanks to all. I definitely learned a bunch from y’all today!
