The default 70% on the cooling fan has ruined numerous prints. (Yes, it’s because I keep forgetting to change it.) Since I clearly can’t trust myself, anyone know where I can go to rip out these default printing profiles?
( If you’re about to reply with anything like, “Don’t do that.”… please, either:
-stop yourself, or
-provide a reason that anyone who might want an answer to this question will actually consider heeding.
For example, “How do I throw water on this fire?” -“Don’t do that; it’s an electrical fire.” Thank you!
When you should stop yourself: “How do I throw water on this fire?” -“Don’t do that. In 1894, a guy threw water on a fire and got arrested by the RCMP for swearing in public.” (Interesting anecdote, but, at the end of the day, nobody cares.)
Also, stop: “Don’t do that. I tried do something similar (not the same). I did it the wrong way and broke my own stuff and now I’m sad.” (Similar lack of caring… slightly more, but not in a good way.) )
I never use the defaults, those are just starting points. So, don’t do that! Cooling can be saved in the profile for each of your filaments.
Start with the generic settings for your filament type, but then edit them as needed (click the pencil and box to the right of the filament). Change fan speeds in the cooling tab, and then save the settings with the name of your specific filament. Those are the settings that will be used whenever you specify that filament. No need to remember…
I’ve found that filaments of the same material from the same manufacturer can need different settings if the color is different, so I am specific about all three when naming my profiles.
I have custom cooling values (and other customization in place) for a few different profiles, but I pretty much only use my one, dialed-in profile for PLA.
Bambu Studio seems to remember my build plate, so that’s cool. But if I change out filament (loading it into the AMS & telling the machine what it is), Bambu Studio doesn’t seem to associate that spool with the any particular profile. So every time I open the slicer, if I don’t change the settings, it runs with the cooling fan set high enough to curl the edges.
Soooo… question remains - how do I change the default? Or rip out the factory settings so only my customized profiles are left? Or how do I associate a profile to a filament when it’s loaded? (And can I do the same thing to the non-AMS, rear-mounted spool?)
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\BambuStudio\system\BBL\filament
the json key for the aux fan is “additional_cooling_fan_speed”. I suggest searching for that in all the *.json files because there will be multiple spots that have to be updated.
You will have to redo it with every new version or after it asks to use “new profiles” (or something like that).
nickbits is the shiznits! Thank you; this is exactly what I was looking for!
Gonna double down on the question now… anyone know if some wonderful individual has published a bunch of custom profiles that can be dumped in here? Sunlu, Inland, etc.
