im currently working on a project of printing different designs of handles for the Bialetti Mokka coffe maker.
For the prototypes I used PETG, I’m now looking for high temperature resistant filament, since the handle is exposed to heat (electric or gas stove).
Within the BL Filaments I thought about PET-CF. Anyone has experience or suggestions about which Filament would do the job?
Im printing with the P1S.
I don’t think the added CF will make the PETG any more heat resistant than normal PETG.
Although not a BL filament, I’ve been having great results with eSun ABS Max. It prints well and has a nice smooth satin finish. It’s probably the best for a 3d print which may be exposed to a flame as it’s resistant to UL94V-0 level.
EDIT: apologies, I thought you meant PETG-CF, I wasn’t aware that there was such a filament as PET-CF. It looks to be exactly what you’re after.
You might heat up the pot and try to get a temperature reading in the area of the handle so that you know how much heat resistance is needed.
The most heat- resistant Bambu filament is PC, at 107°C. ASA is next at 100°C. Bambu does not offer a nylon filament, but nylon is probably the the best choice.
Looks like theres more options to go with. In terms of pricing the eSun ABS Max is only 1/3 of the BL filaments, so that might be an interesting point to start
Unless you know that the handle will be exposed to flame for long periods of time and you know the heat resistance of the eSun ABS Max I’d still go with some PET/ PA filament. The flame retardant filaments are more aimed at stuff that will be used for buildings and infrastructure to fulfill building codes and not for consumer products exactly.
PET/ PA filaments will usually handle heat for long periods of time, and this is especially important when the part that will be in contact with the aluminium is quite small so the stronger it is under heat the better. You dont want the coffee handle to go limp in your hand and spill it all over yourself.
Edit: Also the fact that it is flame retardant means only that it will not ignite or prevent further spread of flame, not that it will withstand the heat of the flames very good.
