Who else has no desire to post things on Maker World?

The few things I’ve felt like sharing I have put on Printables.
Then Makerworld came along and with all of the stuff I’ve read on here about MW I have never had a desire to post anything there.
I also just find the site really too busy with all of the profiles and such.
I love my BL printer, but not a huge fan of MW.

Am I missing something, or am I just too old to want to deal with it all?

This is just your personal opinion and honestly I don’t quite understand your reason for posting this…everyone here is passionate about sharing their honest opinions about how to make MW better, don’t know what u tryin to achieve with this post…hate I guess

Do what makes you comfortable.

I give far more than I take.

The site falls into several categories:

  • Stuff you’ll never print
  • Stuff you might print
  • Stuff you will print
  • Stuff that doesn’t exist that you can make and share

I find the printables site difficult to navigate and the UI is problematic.

Opinions vary.

Asking questions is perfectly fine. Having a different view is fine.

I didn’t see any hate. Not agreeing with your position doesn’t invalidate their position.

I’m sorry you misunderstood my post as being hateful.
I don’t usually post under the MakerWorld category. I am usually trying to help people with their printers.
I just see so many people posting complaints about MW with either their content being stolen by others, MW deleting their stuff for one reason or another, or not getting the “points” they feel they deserve.
It just begged the question to me of “why” or maybe “why bother?”

Just looking for an honest debate.

Out of the 4 mayor 3d printing sites, I find MakerWorld to be the most accessible, fairest and rewarding of them all. My uploads here get way more visibility too. Plus there is a lot of incentives for community interaction.

The biggest part of what is making makerworld is Beta , i call it learning as they grow, others call it likley to change , some say both , whatever the view its up to you, if you want to be part of it , you help ‘iron out the creases’ and add the missing touches for the best shot of its ongoing success

Looking at the majority of files on there, I feel like 99% of the stuff falls into the “Stuff you’ll never print” category.

It feels like much of the content is just re-mixes or junk people upload just to try to collect on the point system.
I suppose that is the narrow line the site is trying walk… entice people to upload original content with the promise of some rewards, yet getting bombarded with non-sense from all of the users trying to game the system.

Maybe that is why I seem to gravitate towards Printables a little more. Their reward systems seems (almost) pointless, so the sharing on the site feels more genuine and for the love of designing, rather than trying capitalize on a reward system.

Admittedly, I prefer printing functional items over “choking hazards”, so I might be a bit biased. ; )

I think people forget sometimes that it’s beta. Not every update goes smoothly, and not everything is up to release levels of refinement yet. I don’t think people always understand exactly what beta means. Well, but then again, the site isn’t really presented in a beta manner. I think one could be forgiven if they didn’t catch onto that tidbit, despite it saying it in the title graphic.

I think most of the complaints about Makerworld relate to that; people not fully understanding or accepting that it’s beta. Other complaints are universal. Like one can steal work from any site; that’s not like some exclusive Makerworld thing. People put stuff on Makerworld they lifted from Printables, and people put stuff on Printables that they lifted from Makerworld, just like people put stuff on Printables they lifted from Thingiverse.

I’ve felt this way about other sites too, like Thingiverse. I mean, that site has been around for a minute plus, so it’s got a vast collection of useful things too, but on the useful vs useless debate, it’s got a lot of that too. On the Makerworld side, at least there’s some attempt at preventing it from just being a dumping ground.

I think printables is more matured, but also built off some of the lessons from thingiverse. I think it’ll get there, but

This is my biggest complaint about makerworld. The rewards lure in good designers and offer them rewards for their time, but they bring in a lot of scammers too, just trying to manipulate the system. A lot of low quality content that gets spammed up.

I wont knock the trinkets though. There’s a lot of fun stuff people love, even if I personally don’t. I’d never print a flexi-dragon, but apparently my sister requested one from my dad and is enjoying it.

Look for the designers that contribute designs that are so functional they deserve their own categories and then follow them. Then look at only those you follow in the following lists. Add new designers as you find them.

Start with this one as his library deserves 11 out of 10 (do not tell him I said so).

Erm, stop putting things in your throat not specifically designed to be placed there!

Followed!

No worries there, since I have no desire to print them, they won’t be coming near my throat or any other orifice. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Hahahahaha, well, I mean, one could argue that stuff is pretty useless too. Does the world really need more phone stands??

In all seriousness though. I’ve been trying to make a point of following more designers. I also like to check out the designers other people follow, as I’ve stumbled across a number of low key but awesome designers that way. The “For You” Section has been pretty good for me. A lot of stuff I probably wouldn’t print still, but it’s certainly more interesting as a whole vs trending.

Makerworld still has a ways to go though. I popped over onto printables, and it is much easier to randomly find things that I would find useful.

That was kind of my point in my original post.
Again, my views are probably held with the tainted perspective of an engineer.

They don’t hold themselves up.

Joking apart, you don’t design your stands, you DESIGN your stands. You put real thought in how they look and function.

Many people can make a functional stand for phones, headphones, laptops, but you add an industrial take to the style that takes them up a level.

I don’t always agree with your opinion, but, your designs, I haven’t found one I don’t like.

I think part of that reason is that it’s just been around longer with a user base that is more diverse. I think Makerworld will get there, it will just take time.

I wouldn’t say tainted. I think it’s about practicality! The trending list doesn’t do us so good, because we’re driven by practicality, not just by ohh pretty 3d object, so neat, much wow. Well, sometimes, haha.

I see it growing, slowly, but surely. It’s been my focus too, as a designer, to try and bring more content to Makerworld that balances design with practicality. How old is Makerworld now? 7ish months? I’m invested and interested in Makerworld, and I’m very interested in how it keeps developing and growing. I’ve taken note several times of how it’s changed, and how it’s been getting easier to interact with and find content I want.

@MalcTheOracle you’re making me blush

IN THREE SIMPLE SENTENCES:
--------------------------------

1º - They Limit the Download per user to 5-10 downloads / day.
THIS is the main reason that makes users not get downloads. The rest NOT count.

2º - They CUT IN HALF the points earned.
THIS is the reason to get 1/5 to 1/10 less than before. Use first statement and this one.

3º - They OPEN the download with No registration.
Now , your limited downloads, will be , even more limited.

Now in this time:
Since last month , Im not uploading to MW. People are asking me to do some new anime models , mods, or other things about my profile. I answer all the same. (you can see it in the comments of some of my models)

Its funny to see :

  • They Delayed the end of their conquest… Maybe low people?
  • They activated EMAIL Warnings!!! Please, come back to MW, dont forget we are here.

Funny x2:
I Needed a “build plate holder” for my A1 … Printables has a lot MORE and BETTER than MW… I ended downloading it from Printables.

I think MW is doomed to be “only for Bambulab Printers” , and with low model income since last changes.

Your Turn MW.

I like the combination of both practicality and pretty.
It’s a much higher bar.

I’m pretty sure that’s what they are going for…

Bambu doesn’t need to have the #1 place for 3d models. They need a site that complements their printer ecosphere.
