Why can't you backorder Filament?

I want to purchase at least 10 spools of PETG HF, but all colors are out of stock. In order to get the 35% percent discount it appears that they have to be ordered at the same time, but all colors have diferrent ETA for being back in stock.

If you could order out of stock filament, Then they could be shipped when available and eventually get the filament that you want.

If you’re in the US try Elegoo HF or Polymakers PETG. Sunlu is a similar quality as well. By most opinions Elegoo would be the closest.

Thanks for the information, Elegoo HF seems a little high in price with a cardboard spool. Have used Creality PETG Filament Refills? It is supposed to fit Bambu spools and cheaper on Amazon. Both could use better ratings.

Not a fan of Creality so I can’t say I’ve used it. Sunlu PETG is good as well and is usually inexpensive.

$14 is a good price. You can print a spool adapter that will fit around the spool.

Oveture isn’t a bad choice either. Refills

from personal experience, sunlu rapid petg matte uses the same print settings as bambu petg-hf and looks ok. it’s slightly shinier, but still matte. it is, however, mechanically a lot stronger than bambu’s stuff. bambu petg-hf is optimised for appearance, not mechanical strength.

Thanks, I ordered a couple spools, like that they fit my bambu spools.

I imagine the problem is related to how infrequently they restock filaments and the low numbers of each.

You want: red, green, blue, yellow, cobalt blue, silver, white and black.

The white and black must come with a spool.

The following example is based on U.K. fluctuations.

  • White and black are normally in stock, if they are nit, they can take 7-24 days to resupply.
  • It is common that only white or black is available with a spool at the same time.
  • Red, green and blue are usually in stock and if not, usually only take a few days to re supply.
  • Cobalt blue is often out of stock and takes an irregular period to return.
  • Silver is hit or miss, it can be available, but then goes away for a while.
  • Heaven forbid you want one of the 9 colours to be added to the PLA Basic line up, those are often 50% out of stock and when they return is anyone’s guess.

Shipping is free over £45 for anything that isn’t printer, AMS or smoke related.

Assuming 3 are in stock, do they ship those straight away? If 2 come back in stock in 7 or less days, do they ship those together? If the remaining 3 come in over a 14 day period, do they ship them as teach arrives?

Do they wait until all filaments are in stock? If they do, do they allocate your stock and start putting it in a box for you as it arrives? That last one seems the easiest for BL, but it increases efforts, logistics and warehouse space, let alone the higher likelihood of incorrect products being inadvertently placed in your box as it could be done over a few weeks.

I get what you want, I also want it, but in reality, it is harder to achieve than first considered.

Also, you must remember that many territories have shipping by third-party companies who fulfil orders on behalf of many companies. Not just those for BL.

I think that providing a discounted price for backordered items (maybe not the full discount) would promote loyalty to the Bambu brand and would help to endure the delay in the supply.

Take this as just a reply.
They built the brand loyalty by selling the printer. You can use any filament you wish. The RFID feature is what keeps me coming back, and it’s mostly consistent quality. I don’t think BL relies on this, but customers will be back.
Look at it like this as well, BL isn’t happy about losing sales. Whatever the reason I would imagine they’d like it sorted as well.

for my own stuff i only do backorders for business customers.

consumers are too random. order this, cancel this, what is delay on this, when do i pay for this etc

of course i suck at supply chain

If you want it, you want it. Offering discounts on back orders will not change that. Plus it makes multiple deliveries off the same order even more expensive for BL.

Your filament will ship on March 1st
