Why does my AMS respool midprint?

While printing the hinges for this rugged box, my X1C stops midprint, cuts and unloads the filament, then immediately reloads the filament and continues.

I don’t believe I’ve seen that behavior before. Why would it respool midprint? Is there a setting that controls this?

I had a respool for the first time yesterday. It did it 3 times, the third time I noticed that the filament was wrapped around itself in the AMS. I just paused the print and fixed the spool.

Maybe yours unwrapped itself?

make sure your pfte tubing is not bent to much… the weak motors of the AMS need a very smooth pathway topush the filament, even the slightest bit of resistance can cause issues at times. Only other thought is somehow your spool is tangled causing resistance

I had that behavior once: the filament was tangled in the spool of the AMS.

This usually happens when the filament is tangled, but it shouldn’t cut it and an error should come on display.

This issue can occur when the filament sticks or binds to the sides of the spool, whether it’s made of cardboard or plastic. In my experience, it sometimes loosens after several attempts and continues printing.

I’m using an Overture spool with these AMS adapters. Likely this is the cause.

Thanks, all!

I change the no compatible spools to compatible ones (original BL or not).
I use this simple adapter I designed (there are a bunch of them in MW) and a drill:

Spool Winder

Easy, cheap, functional and problem free.

Update – I found a length of broken filament in the AMS, between the feeder and the hub. Now that I’ve removed it, all seems to be working reliably.

I’m not sure what the winder is meant to accomplish. Can you please elaborate?

Oh, sorry.
I meant I change the spool for another known working one if it’s troublesome.
