Why does my printer do this?


This severe under extrusion.

Ive tried using support tickets with no luck. Does anyone know what can cause this issue?

For context:
Bambu labs generic Pla
stock settings for 0.16 mm optimal layer height
0.4 mm hardened steel nozzle

Either the nozzle is partially clogged or your filament calibration is off.

Are you letting the automatic calibration run at the beginning of the print?

For a clog you can perform a cold pull to hopefully pull whatever is in there out. Also you could try a different nozzle and if it fixes the issue you know it was a blockage.

I’ve tried three different hot ends. Two 0.4mm and one 0.2mm diameter nozzles. I’ve done cold pills on them until there was no color change on each nozzle before testing. Two of those nozzles are brand new
I also let the calibration run for each print .

So I don’t believe it’s a nozzle issue. Like a clog.

If there’s no clog as you say then it almost seems as though the ‘e-steps’ are off somehow which can’t be for these machines. What’s the flow ratio of the filament profile you’re using? Try upping that by about 25% (from the looks of your print) and print it again just to see, maybe your extruder motor is faulty or something is slipping.

So I’ve tried that flow ratio too. I start with the 0.98 that it calibrates to and gone up to 1.15. Moving up by 0.02 increments and it doesn’t improve. It becomes muddy or won’t stick to the plate at all towards 1.15 value

Are you printing from an AMS or the external spool?

I had something similar after about 500 hours printing. 2 rolls of wood PLA through too.

My nozzle was still perfect and when I dug a bit deeper, I found that the extruder was skipping and slipping - it makes the odd click sound.

Easy fix. Took it apart, was full of filament dust an the gear teeth were impacted with white eSun PLA+ that I’d ran through it. A good clean up, ran a calibration and was up and running in about 1 hour from very start to finish.

So I’ve tried that too. I toor down the extruded assembly and washed them making sure they were clean. I saw no visible fillament dust only this redish brown powder. Which I haven’t printed anything of that color. Other than that I’ve tried exactly what you described. The only thing I haven’t done is taken out the extruded stepper motor.

Have you tried another roll of filament?

Are this the only prints you are seeing these defects? Try another print or slicer? Eliminate the specific print and/or slicer…

ive tried matte,silk and other regular filaments. Also have tried settings on the Orca slicer to the same effect.

Also shows up with different print files.

Tried both. I’ve eliminated the AMS from being the problem.

Reddish brown powder you say. In my world of machine repair, this indicates wear. Look up fretting corrosion, it can show up as reddish or rusty brown dust or staining. At work. it usually involves a bearing on a shaft but can happen anywhere where there is movement between parts where there shouldn’t be. You could try slowing the printing speed way down as if it is wear, it may not be driving the filament well enough to get correct extrusion. Going real slow might let the filament sit in the heated zone longer. Or it may have no effect, I’m kinda guessing here. I would definitely try a new extruder.

Hello, i have got the same problem. Since Update to V 1.7. Changed Nozzle, made an inspection on the extruder (nothing), factory reset, tried Bambu and Orca slicer. Firmware downgrade not possible!

Same issue here. No solution yet… Waiting for a reply on support ticket. I replaced extruder gears and I am back where I was even with new gears…
