Why does the heatbed drop before filament priming/extrusion

So I am now in the habit to home’all’ before I start a new print to keep the print plate all the way to the top and to prevent any ‘debris’ to enter the rear opening to the lead screw. But now I observed that the bed drops anyway by about 1 1/2 inches during the filament priming/extrusion process from the AMS. Thus defeating the purpose of homing the plate/heat bed to keep the ‘hole’ in the back blocked. Does anyone know why BL makes it do that? Any convincing reason for that?
