When I start a print with everything but the AMS turned off the bed is scanned by the Lidar device.
Does anyone know what is happening?
That is the first layer inspection; you can disable that in the print options in Bambu Studio or the printer itself.
No! it is scanned before the first layer even goes down, I did say it was the empty bed.
Yes! Maybe check your assumptions before replying.
Why would it start the first layer if it can check if it’s going to fail.
I’ve always thought is was so it could generate a map to use for the first layer check and spaghetti detection. If it knows what it looked like before beginning a print and it knows what it’s printed, anything that doesn’t match is a problem. If you are using the cool plate and glue, it will look different for each print whether you clean it and reapply each time or use it for a dozen prints before cleaning like I do. We have rapid roll up doors at work with cameras that scan the approach. If the floor is dirty when it’s powered up and it does it’s first scan, it learns that dirt. Later when someone sweeps the floor, the door will stay up. The learned pattern no longer matches the current pattern so something is in the way of the door.
The AI failure detection does not do image matching, it is trying to mimic a human in the way it’s detecting that. If you take the print off the plate, you will still be able to tell if the print has any issues.
Did you try disabling it?
It is not an assumption, I know the bed is empty and I know the bed is being scanned by the lidar.
For that, I would need to know what the function being performed is first.
So this is happening on your printer also? that’s good to know as it can’t just be a fault with my machine, I wonder if the function whatever it is gets started in the start G-code?
If first layer inspection is on, it will scan before the first layer and then again the first layer after it’s finished printing layer one. So instead of arguing, disable first layer inspection ind try again. You will see it skipping scanning the empty bed.
First layer inspection.
I think its checking the level of the bed, I read somewhere that it has two bed leveling features.
Nope, not doing bed leveling, just checking if there is nothing left on the build plate.
Thanks! I think I will put up with it as I probably paid quite a bit for that lidar and so I might as well make use of it.
