Why does the printout become weak?

Often when making a model with two different heights, the printout breaks down right at the base of two levels.

Has anyone encountered the same problem?

try to choose a different orientation… maybe on the side! so that the bracket has a better connection

Thats typically where the stress gets concentrated. So where there is sudden change in width of the material, there is a higher probability of breakage. If you can use a fillet at that point you can decrease the chances of failure.

Curious what filament are you using?

thanks for the question. Filament is PA6-GF

Besides the stress concentration, the long layer time reduces layer adhesion.

Printing it on its back will greatly improve that particular weak spot but hole quality will be a bit worse. Do not tighten the sunk screws too much as you’ll have layer line weakness through the holes.

You could also add a fillet to the inside corner to reduce the stress concentration and get a more even layer time distribution.

Furthermore, the layer time effect can be reduced by using a raft/supports to tilt the object by say 15°.

You’re right. This could improve that weakness. I didn’t even think about that option.

try to lay it on the side…

I got the printout to fall apart when I twisted these sticks horizontally back/forth.
I didn’t even tighten the screws in the recesses. squeezing the sticks together did not break the object.

Layer height 0.08mm Extra Fine. 0.4 diameter nozzle

I also thought about this option

I was trying to say to add a fillet as shown with the green arrows if you need to print in the orientation as shown in your first photo. Also try to increase the number of walls.

Else like others have suggested you can try rotating the part 90° so the holes for the shafts are pointing upwards and check if that helps.

You mean I draw that 90 degree angle more gently on the model. 45

I drew that joint in a special way on the bottom part. more gentle than 90 degrees.

Yes that should improve the strength, let us know how it turns out

It worked. I wouldn’t have believed the effect if I hadn’t tried it. Thank you very much.
