I just wasted 200g of the very expensive PpA-CF because of a miscalulation of weights. Why don’t you put the weight of the empty spool on each spool? It stop us guessing if a print can be made or not with the amount of remaining filament!!
You knew beforehand that it would be a close call. In such cases, I put an empty roll on a scale myself - and if I don’t have one, I do a quick google. I’m sure someone has done it before. BL also writes this under the specification on the store page of the roll, for example.
Of course it would be more convenient and would save us 1 minute of work.
Any time I start using a filament spool I’m not already familiar with, I pop it on a scale to measure the “full” weight, then subtract 1000g from that (assuming a full 1kg spool) to get an approximate* spool weight. That weight gets written on a piece of blue painter’s tape that I stick to the side of the spool.
If it’s a brand and filament type that I think I’ll use again, I’ll remeasure the empty spool once I’ve used all the filament and record that in a database.
(*) it’s rare to get exactly 1000g of filament on a spool, but most companies tend to give you slightly more than 1kg instead of slightly less.
Well I can tell you that when I received a new refill, from BL, and put it on a scale the weight is less than it should be !!
4 time’s I measured between 850 and 900 grams !
I already ask this question on the forum of what is the tolerance of the weight for filament PETG HF ?
I’d complain to BL… If I pay for 1kg of filament, I expect to get at least 1000grams of filament.
The 250g sample I got with the printer had over 350g of filament
Here are taras I’ve measured for Bambu spools, for future googling:
White spool 70°C 245g
Transparent spool 70°C 255g
Light grey spool 90°C 253g
Dark grey spool unknown as of yet
The cardboard center core is ø83 Ø89 and weighs 37-38g. The above weights include this.
It won’t help you, but maybe you want to measure the spool if you still have it and contribute the onylspoolz project (google it).
You should know how much filament you have left, and if you have an AMS use auto refill.
