Why is it so difficult and cumbersome to add custom filaments to Bambu Studio? (The cynic in me says it’s to drive more purchases of bambu filament.)
Like, BS includes Overture PLA as a system filament. Let’s say I want to create a custom filament Overture PLA Blue. Why can’t I just go to Filaments->Custom Filament->Create New and just…create new? Or copy the existing filament with a new name that is completely independent of the the one it was copied from? (Heaven forbid I create a new Midnight Blue from Blue later, and then want to delete Blue. “No! Something is based on it!”)
Why can’t I save the new filament with a meaningful name that doesn’t leave the filaments list polluted with “Brand Printer Type”? E.g., why do I need the “OVERTURE PLA Blue” entry to remain in the list once I’ve saved it as “Overture PLA Blue 0.4”?
And then the flow calibrations… Sheesh! Why are they separate? Why can’t the PA and k values just be saved with the filament profile so choosing one chooses everything? (EDIT: Oh, right, completing the Flow Rate calibration does create a new profile. Now there’s 3 where there should only be 1.)
And once past all that, will my custom filament be an AMS choice? Maybe it will, maybe it won’t! Just going to have to try and see!
This hardware is brilliant. Being able to just start a print and know I’m almost certain to get a great print is such a nice change from previous experiences with other brands. And most of the software side is good, too. But the overly complicated aspect of adding and managing filaments is just painful.
Okay, I’m still a Bambu noob. Is there a more appropriate place than here to complain about this that might actually make it to the Bambu devs?
EDIT: Apologies if this duplicates a previous rant, or just makes my incompetence obvious. I tried to find a relevant previous post and all I found were limited to custom filaments not showing as choices for the AMS.
