the PLA Overture profile is terrible!!
I was printing one of those stools to see if it would actually work as a joke, and the print went rough midway through! Any tips? I’ll use the bambu lab profile for now.
There is nothing special about the Overture profile, its very similar to generic PLA. We need a but more info about how it failed and maybe a few photos.
It may help to temper your expectations regarding Bambu Lab’s third-party filament profiles. When they launched their slicer in late 2022, it was a fork of PrusaSlicer and Cura, which themselves derive from the open-source Slic3r. At the time, Bambu was still in Kickstarter mode and practically begging for adoption. To their credit, they scaled fast - but the filament profiles were just rough first-pass calibrations to get things moving until they could spin up their own filament line.
Since then, arrogance has taken over. Third-party collaborators - OrcaSlicer, BIQU, BigTreeTech’s Panda, and independent filament vendors - have been pushed out in increasingly hostile fashion. Bambu has made it clear: their walled garden has a gatekeeper, and the new rule is simple - no third-party support.
They haven’t meaningfully updated third-party profiles since 2023. Worse, most were never validated in the first place. They just threw settings against the wall and walked away.

The Remedy: “Master the art and science of manual calibration.”
It might seem tedious at first, but once you learn to calibrate manually, you’ll gain real freedom:
- A well-tuned $10 spool can match the performance of a Bambu-branded spool at nearly twice the cost.
- You’re no longer locked into Bambu’s ecosystem - or stuck dealing with their checkered filament quality, as noted many times in this forum.
Here are two of my favorite videos on manual calibration. While there are other YouTube tutorials out there and these two videos are almost two years old, I still find them to be spot-on. The YouTuber uses OrcaSlicer in his example - a hardened variant of Bambu Studio - because at the time, Bambu hadn’t yet “borrowed” Orca’s routines. To be fair, Orca is a fork of Bambu Studio, which was itself forked from prior slicers. Originality is thin across the board. The difference? Orca’s devs are hobbyists building for the community, not a corporate play. These videos should be able to apply to Bambu Studio as of their 2.0 release.

It should be noted Before Bambu went full Darth Vader, they even promoted Orca on their own Wiki. That stopped the moment they forced everyone onto Bambu Connect - and the Orca devs politely said “no thanks.” Today, OrcaSlicer is the preferred slicer for several other brands, including Elegoo and QIDI and they receive full support from those companies, a fact I’m sure Bambu does not like which may explain their outward hostility.
This used to be such a friendly and collaborative community until Bambu spoiled the ecosystem.
