Why We’re Upgrading Our Points System

In my case, I started to notice that no points were awarded for downloads.
I reached the milestone of 1k downloads for one of my parametric designs:

(Yes, it’s a box.)

The milestone was reached after June 17th, and I received a big pile of nothing for it.

So, clearly, for MakerWorld, if you’re a “small fish”, you’re useless, and your efforts are not valued on their platform.

I know my design isn’t a breakthrough in design history, but I put a lot of work into creating my models. I also know they don’t owe me anything, but it’s still a bummer that they suddenly decided my work doesn’t deserve even the smallest reward…

I believe it’s just because of timezones. I think they elaborate an entire day starting from 00:00UTC.
I’m UTC+2 so I’m very close to that, I could see something from the 17th locatimezone but it’s unlikely.
But if you are US you may see a decent amount of entries from 18th

Something I’ve been wondering about lately, and I don’t really know the answer myself…

Why would someone still post exclusive models on MakerWorld after this change? Now that the points system is no longer transparent, we don’t know how many points we get, or what earns more or fewer points. So why keep things exclusive here?

It’s just unclear if exclusive uploads even give you more points anymore. All the transparency is gone, and that makes it harder to understand what the best choice is.

I’m not trying to complain, just honestly curious — maybe someone else has a good reason or thought about this?

Good point. Time to uncheck the Exclusive box.

Here is the point: to write a promt, which will create you an AI 3d model and to create from scratch project (even we will not talk about difficulties of a project) - between this 2 styles a huuuuge difference, especially in amount of time end quality.

It’s like to ask “why I can’t sell my street food sandwich with same price as marbled beef steak in restaurant” ? In the end, it’s still food and the satiety will be the same, but the pleasure received and time of cooking will be completely different.

And, how many sandwiches will you sell in a day? - Many. How many dishes with that delicious marbled steak the restaurant wil sell? - Couple.

The profit of both in the end of the day can be the same, but here is no questions why the sandwich is 2$ and steak 50$.

It’s better to start to learn some Fusion or Blender, instead to ask “we want get the same points” ! It’s complicated, but very interesting.

I am far away from good designer right now, but I am super glad, that I am learning and already can do myself something interesting and eye catching for the community.

I agree

I have around 70 models and have made just over 4k points as my models are not the run of the mill dragons and eggs.

If I now find that my low but steady stream of points stop I will be giving up on Makerworld and putting my designs on Cults. In all honesty just one or 2 sales per item on Cults will provide me with far more of a return than Makerworld and I only persevere with it due to the sense of community.

At the moment I am waiting to see how things pan out

Same here. It’s too early to judge right now.

Based on what?

I fail to see how its “unfair” that a model that is useful gets more base points, if its popular it deserves more points

Because they enjoy it, why do you think they should be given more points just because they spent more time on it, bambu isn’t paying you an hourly rate, thats what a job is for

See thats the thing, people first solve their own problems, for example i modelled a replacement caddy for a server i own, not because i thought other people would need it but because i needed it, its a niche model because it fits a specific set of servers from a single vendor, its a pretty niche model, i’m not upset that this model doesn’t gain the same popularity as my other models

It really does sound like you’re expecting bambu to pay you an hourly rate based on the time it takes you to make a model, that won’t happen

First and foremost you need to enjoy what you’re doing, if you like making complex models then why does it matter if only a handful of people are downloading them, this isn’t a job its a hobby

The points are distributing once a day - right? Before the day one, I getting updates during a day (beside boosts), now is eerie silence.

So far I am getting only boosts.

I used to enjoy receiving frequent updates; it helped break up the always boring days. I do get the Boost ones, but they are nowhere near as frequent as the previous receipts when the other transactions were included.

Sorry to hear that.

Yeah, same for me. 3 Days in a row no points, before it was at least 100 a day.

Same here, about 40 to 70 points a day, excluding the boosts. Since this started I only received some boosts, but no points anymore.

Yep I was consistently making 140 to 300 points per day excluding boosts Yesterday only 34 point 5 points despite the same number of views downloads and interactions Something is clearly wrong and its not looking good

Luckily I started a Cults account two weeks ago and already got 3 sales and 2 custom life size model commissions those alone brought in 250 euros That tells me what MakerWorld does not appreciate my work and time

I specialize in turning game cartoon and movie characters into life size modular 3D models you got a photo a dream i make it happen not AI generated junk And I know my audience Ive got dedicated users on MakerWorld who print every Dragon Ball Life size character I upload These prints once filled primed and painted as I suggest in all my descriptions can easily resell for 1000 to 5000 euros on eBay

Meanwhile MakerWorld gets all the traction from my 500 plus models I bring in over 3000 views per day 150 to 250 downloads daily and more than 7 million impressions total

Some of my models require 9 to even 25 kg of filament each and the users are clearly investing in them So why am I getting only 1 to 2 euros worth of points a day now That is not sustainable

It used to work for everyone MakerWorld got the traffic users got great models and I got a fair share around 10 to 20 euros per day But with just 34 point 5 points across 2 days now it is not even worth the time to read a comment let alone help users with prints or manage the 5 to 10 model requests I get every day most of which I actually create and upload

On Cults at least I am not working 12 hours a day helping users and fulfilling custom requests for free

If this does not turn around I know where my time and models are better appreciated

The amount of people in this thread simping for AI while also talking about how they’re no longer earning as much as they used to causes me to assume that either their AI slop was getting pushed to the top without proper justification or they’re the ones more likely to bot.

Its only a supposition but they don’t seem terribly interested in posting in any other forum or thread; just this one. It makes it really hard to not see them as just being upsetti spaghetti that their money printer broke.

Per day, I earn about 50 points from downloads/prints and about 75 points from boosts.

After 1 whole day with the new program, boosts are about the same, but I received 28 reward points instead of my average of 50 points per day.

Is it concerning? Not really. Should I panic? Certainly not. I’ll wait for at least a week or two of data before I can really compare before and after.

Not to cause offence but maybe they have reduced your boosts because your models use IP that (I assume) you don’t own.

This is true, but must be some sort of error or a delay, seeing many good creators earning no points, while others do.

It seems that not only the pointing system was tweaked, but also how ranking worked. I noticed however based on 1 day only, that views and downloads accordingly were dropped

Well, I don’t know who you are talking about, but my models are made by myself in Fusion, and I am one of the people saying that I see a decline in the number of points I earn for my models.
Yet, I also state that I think it’s too early to complain. We should just wait for a few weeks, then we can see how it really turns out.
