unfortunately I have some problems with the use of my X1C in the guest network of my FritzBox 7590.
For security reasons (and because of the lack of VLAN management on the FritzBox), I wanted to use my X1C in the separate guest network (similar name, just a different number. Example: WLAN 1 and WLAN 2).
I can connect my printer to the WLAN (~4ms), but the printer does not establish an Internet connection.
Test devices can connect to the guest WLAN and access the Internet without any problems.
According to the FritzBox, the printer is connected, receives and sends data (e.g. the current data rate is 72 Mbits, each up and down).
The guest network is set up identically to the actual network, in which the printer connects to the Internet without any problems.
It’s been a few years since I had a Fritz but I do remember always having had issues I shouldn’t have had…
Yours is hopefully more advanced…
I know from my router setup that I can set the guest network with limited sharing abilities.
Like only allowing internet access but no home network access, or the other way around.
Then there is the port mapping stuff and forwarding, firewall rules …
If I have a device on my guest network and set the access for this device to ‘strict’ then it only gets basic internet access.
In case of my P1S it means the PRINTER can access the internet and everything on the GUEST network that the printer’s IP has access rights to.
Studio and handy also have internet access but can NOT access the printer directly if they are on the normal Wifi network.
They can send data TO the printer but the printer won’t be able to respond in kind as it is NOT allowed access unless I specifically grant this access to the normal network in the router.
They can all communicate over the internet though using ‘the cloud’…
You might just have restrictions in your router configuration, be it those you can change or those Fritz still thinks a user should not be allowed to change.
I am unfamiliar with Fritz, unfortunately.
If " user_3026326371" advice doesn’t help, another seemingly overlooked thing to check for is IP conflicts.
Your printer could have a static IP that works fine on your home network but might be conflicting with something on the Guest network.
Conversely, the Guest network could be assigning a dynamic IP to your printer that might be statically assigned to device already sitting on your Guest network.
Both of these scenarios could exhibit the symptoms you have detailed, and would explain why your router reports traffic to and from a device IP you think is unique to your printer.
The guest net isn’t used by any other device.
The printer got a unique IP, which is shown in the fritzbox overlay same as the printer.
I can ping this IP from my pc too.
My pc and smartphone both have full internet access - I haven’t set any restriction to the guest net - it’s configured identically to my normal net.
(Well, the few options you can configure with a fritzbox…).
Even with wireshark I couldn’t find any reason.
There is no other entry than “Printer to 255.255.255.255”.
Same as if the printer is used in the “normal”, working net while testing the internet connection.
(What seems to be pretty strange - how does the printer check the internet connectivity without using the wifi…)
Check if the guest network has isolation - some routers isolates clients in the guest network by default, which means they can access internet but cannot talk to another device in the guest network.
Check if Bambu use any mDNS for discovery - like HomeKit. I have a coffee machine connects via Home Connect app, I wasn’t able to get it set up even if the phone and it was in the same network, because of I accidentally disabled the mDNS for particular protocol it uses in that network.
Fritzbox often has restrictions at the guest-net. E.g. “Kindersicherung”. Or rate limits, time restrictions…
Check “internet/filter”. “internet/filter/zugangsprofile”. “Heimnetz/network”. “Wlan/Funknetz”. “Heimnetz/Mesh”.
Also ensure that you are using the newest firmware. I once had problems with my Fritzbox and support told me to insatll the newest firmware, which was at that time not yet public available.
But using the guest network could also prevent you to access the printer from a PC or a smartphone, if they are in the normal net and you wish to access them over wlan. The guest net is in a different subnet.
