Will Filament track switch work with the H2c

I made this mount with an integrated 4-in-1 adapter mount (for both types). My main aim was to minimise resistance as much as possible. I haven’t been able to run many tests yet, but so far it’s been working well. I’ll be uploading it to Makerworld soon.

Many thanks for this update! I’ve already printed and mounted your V1 a few days ago and it works great, but I’ll reprint this one for sure as the 4-in-1 adapter mount is a great addition! Or maybe I’ll remix it to keep only the 4in1 mount part and clip it to the existing one, unless you’ve thought about that already. :wink:

So your switch works on your H2C or are you just running the filament in to see how your setup works?

I did first prints and It worked without any problems. But of course, I don’t have any long-term experience with it yet.

Thank you for your feedback. I probably won’t upgrade V1, as I don’t see any advantages over V2. With V2, you have the option to adjust the distance to the filament inlets and thus reduce friction.

any chance of supporting the h2c style 4-in-1 ptfe adapter? i’ve tested those and they don’t really add much friction if the filament path is optimized.

I tested both of them and I haven’t noticed any difference. So, I think, both types work.

Yes, there will be holders for both 4-in-1 adapter types and they will be interchangeable. I haven’t noticed much of a difference either.

I’m a bit behind with this. But what is the main benefit to this device? Why would I want to swap the materials over to the other nozzle?

Maybe it’s set up specific? I have 3 x AMS for my H2C. 1 x AMS is “out of the way” and goes to my left nozzle, it solely contains support interface materials.

Then I have 2 x AMS’s infront of me to the right nozzle. Left AMS contains PLA, right one contains ASA, ABS and PETG.

I’m just struggling to understand why having the switch would be beneficial. Thank you.

? Because then any filament from any AMS can be loaded into any nozzle without having to physically move the spools …

In addition, this should make the switch faster, because you can keep the second filament at the switch and don’t have to retract it all the way back into the AMS.

Maybe it’s just my set up specifically but I can’t see how that would be beneficial (to me).

My left nozzle AMS’ are only for support material that get used now and again so I wouldn’t need them to swap over would I? I’m just struggling to understand the benefits for my usage. I’m not trying to play down the switch at all, just trying to understand how it would be beneficial.

That “for me” in your sentence pretty much explains it all. Yeah, in your scenario, it might not do much (except for the potential speed advantage if Bambu uses it). But that doesn’t change the fact that its actual purpose is crystal clear … i guess … :smiley:

I ordered mine 5 minutes ago … I have to switch the filaments all the time and must have an eye on the “convenience mode” switch in Studio, which anoys me …

Seems like in your specific use case there is not much benefit. Maybe if you want to print multicolor or multi material without support.
But then again, you would need each AMS switchable independently.

I’m really more and more convinced, that a manual switch like this

is a better solution in most scenarios than the FTS. I guess it just is less convenient, because you have to reconfigure or relearn the assignment manually after changing the switches?

Cheers yeah that was my point I guess that for me it wouldn’t be useful. I just wanted to try man mathsing my way into a new shiny toy/attachment haha.

Well it might actually. There is a little known feature introduced in the latest bambu studio beta 2.6.1 (works from H2C beta FW 01.01.50.00) that stops retracting just after the switch when you have only 1 AMS (for some reason AMS2 only in my tests) connected to each inputs rather than all the way to the AMS. This can save a lot of time for the vortek

That’s not correct. You’re saying Bambu supports told you the switches are different? If they told you that then their support needs support.

The switcher can be instructed by the slicer so its main selling point is that it will no longer matter where you put your filament, just place new/replacement filament in the nearest free AMS slot, they can all be fed to either nozzle during print anyways, including autoswap when a spool runs out.

Note: My assumption is that autoswap will support this as there is no technical reason it wouldnt, I havent actually tested it.

I don’t know if I am misunderstanding (likely lol), but if I put a pla and say, PETG into the two AMS’ in front of me (one in each AMS but currently going to the right nozzle) that is going to be used as interface support. Surely that won’t work will it? Or it will have to fully retract each time?

My thoughts were at the moment my interface support material would be going to the left nozzle and is pre-loaded during a print so wouldn’t have to keep retracting like what it would do for my example above.

Sorry to be playing devils advocate, i’m just making sure i’m 100% sure it can do what I think it can do.

On this Reddit page someone shows the inside of the Filament Track Switch.
You can clearly see that there are to paths the filament travels along and in the Reddit post it is confirmed that the track switch can send filament down both tracks simultaneously. One above the other.
You can have 2x AMS 2 Pro’s simultaneously feeding filament to the dual nozzle printer.
It does not matter in which AMS the PLA and PETG filament is in.
So I guess if you have a PLA print object and you want to use PETG as support with only 1 roll of PETG filament in either AMS 2 Pro the slicer will handle the mapping.

Its just a gadget that allow you to connect your AMS units however you want, this will make it much more convenient to print. We can just load whatever filament we have wherever there is an empty AMS slot, it doesnt matter as it can now be routed to any nozzle.

If you absolutely need to have some specific filament in the left nozzle at all times and dont want it retracted for whatever reason, I’m sure you will do just fine without it.
