Wish people would stop posting print plates with grid infill

As per title, if there any “Makers” here that regularly post to makerworld. Could you please post 2 plates one with whatever infill you want and one with a non crossover infill (gyroid, line, etc).
Or at least put the infill type in the title.

If my printer is idle and I’m browsing for something to print on my iPad, I will regularly print the plates from there.
However Bambu Handy does not show or give you the option to change infill type it’s caught me a few times where a print is 1/4 way through and the infill starts and catches.

Unless I’m missing something and it’s possible to change it.

You are correct, you can only change the infill pattern from Bambu Studio and not Bambu Handy.

Whilst Bambu Handy does initiate a slice prior to printing, it does this on a fixed set of changeable items related to printer, plate & materials only.

My concern would be your difficulties in printing models with grid pattern if this causes failures (if I read your message correctly.

That is something you should investigate as that is not typical.

I don’t think this is a reasonable request. It’s like asking everyone to add brims to all parts just because you have bed adhesion issues. While it might be reasonable for some parts where the creator’s profile lacks proper settings, forcing a specific setting that has its downsides (like gyroid infill being slow and noisy) doesn’t make sense to me. If this were a widespread issue, more third-party print profiles would include this pattern, and if this pattern were prone to such issues, it likely wouldn’t have been the default for so long.

However, I would immediately support a request for more print profile customization options through the mobile app. I think that would be a win-win option for everyone.

It is a well known issue that grid infill can cause problems because the walls cross on the same layer. It is discussed here and on many blogs. It is especially a problem for PETG, causing blobs that can lead to the hot end being covered in plastic. The reason it is the default is likely because of a leftover legacy from the original slicer code base.

One advantage for grid infill is that it is strong because of the extras material at the crossing walls.

I you want to use other infill you have to change the setting in the slicer. You can’t force the creator to use a certain infill because you want to.
It could be using grid is a common problem, never happend to me in all the years I’m printing.

@MakerWorld
I would love to hear a manufacturer’s point of view on whether this is a legacy issue or intentional. I haven’t encountered any problems during my approximately 3,000 hours of print time, but I primarily print with PLA.

It completes generally with no problem. But it will create a few blobs of plastic. I pretty much only print PETG at minimum. Never use PLA.
I am aware that this is of my own choice.

I think this is the ultimate solution, more setting availability in Bambu handy or a Studio port to iOS.

Also I didn’t request no grid infill posts, I asked for an alternative as well. And a note in the title as the app doesn’t show.
So people can choose.

ive had issues with all other infils. which is best for you

I think it would just be best if they added a feature in Handy to change the infill pattern and density. Honestly.
