Wood filament only comes out when i press ams head and gears. fix?

I have noticed that my wood pla comes out only when I press the ams down and the gear tension. You can see in the pic what I mean… Otherwise I need to push it with my hands manually to put it inside the extruder… Then it prints fine until there is no more in the extruder and need to push again. When it tries to put more in the extruder by itself, it push the ams head down but cant do it totally and the filament doesn’t get in.

This problem happen only with woodfill pla from colorfabb… I am trying to fix but need help and advice.

What size nozzle are you using?

0.6 nozzle why? I dont think that is the issue

3. AMS & AMS lite. Please note that AMS and AMS lite do not support too soft, too brittle, or too hard and rough filaments. Too soft filaments include TPU 95A, TPU 85A, TPU 83A, TPU 80A, damp PVA or BVOH, etc., which are difficult to pass through the AMS / AMS lite channel and can easily cause loading and unloading failures, clogging, and other issues. Some brands of PET-CF, PLA Wood, PA-CF/GF, PAHT-CF/GF, and other filaments are too brittle and prone to break in the AMS / AMS lite channel. Some brands of PET-CF, PA-CF/GF, PAHT-CF/GF, PLA-CF/GF, and other filaments are too hard and rough, which can easily damage the AMS / AMS lite channel. Besides, AMS has transmission gear which can work together with the extruder gear to make sure some rough and / or soft filaments can be loaded and unloaded successfully despite the greater resistance, but the AMS lite does not, so some certain kinds of filaments like PLA Glow (Glow-in-the-dark), PETG-CF, PLA LW (low weight), PLA Wood and etc. can be compatible with AMS but may not be compatible with AMS lite.

Should it work then If I use an external spool instead? But you have anyways to put the filament in one of the entries of the ams. Will it work just like that or I am missing something?

Please note that it only explains the filament compatibility with AMS / AMS lite from the perspective of filament loading and unloading. In actual use, the compatibility between the printers and the filaments must also be considered.

i have no experience of using wood based filaments and would assume the answer would be no due to the filament hub / print head , being where clogging occurs ?

I’ve run into a milder issue with PLA glow in the dark. It’s abrasive, and there’s significant resistance via the AMS, resulting in feed errors. It works just fine from the external spool though. And no, the external spool does NOT go through the AMS. You need to pull one of the AMS bowden tubes from the print head, and put the external spool-holder’s tube in its place. (That tube is much shorter than the AMS Lite tubes)
I’ve also found that despite telling the A1 that I’m using the external spool, it can get confused, so I usually unplug the AMS Lite from the A1 when using the external spool. (Turn off the A1 before unplugging the AMS)

Can you tell me if there is any video where I can see this? Do you put the filament directly in one of the four holes but without the ams tubes in order to do this or how does it work? I am sorry but I did not understand you totally before… Thanks

These are my steps. Unplugging the AMS is not technically required, but I’ve had shenanigans ensue most times I did not.

  1. Make sure all filaments are unloaded from the print head via the AMS. (You should be able to pull back on them.) They can stay in the tubes, that’s fine. Us the unload in the filament menu if any are still loaded. (Should not be.)
  2. Turn off the printer.
  3. Unplug the AMS from the printer
  4. Unplug one of the four filament tubes from the print head. Doesn’t matter which one. You will need to press down on the black ring where the tube enters while pulling out the tube.
  5. Mount your external spool holder, if not mounted already.
  6. Plug the tube for the external spool into the open hole. Plug the other end into the connection on the spool holder.
  7. Turn the printer back on.
  8. Place your spool on the external holder, feed the filament into the tube until it stops.
  9. On the printer’s screen, go to the filament menu, and tell it you want to load filament from the external spool, follow the instructions. At the point it is actually loading, you may need to keep light pressure on the filament when it starts feeding.
    When you are done printing, you will have to explicitly unload that filament via the menus before you can swap the AMS tub back in.

And can we say how much annoyance could have been avoided if Bambu had made a 5-way connector instead of 4-way?
