Wood pla cant be pushed out of the nozzle. How could I solve?

I would like to know if somoeone has had a similar problem or you know how to solve it. I used an old wood pla that I bought second hand (but still vacuum sealed). For some reason my a1 mini has problems pushing the new filament when I am loading it. Sometimes it load the filament if push it myself manually and begin printing but when I stop pushing with my hand the filament, it stop printing and we get the same problem. The nozzle isn’t clogged but the filament just will not come out unless i use extra force. This only happens with the wood filament as I have tried other filaments as it prints fine (I had some problems with unloading though… sometimes it doesn’t unload previous filaments totally, keeping a bit inside)

What size nozzle? I think you have to use .06 or higher for the wood filament.

Yes, I used 0.6 nozzle but doesnt matter… It just cant get pushed, I need to push it manually for some reason

A nozzle of 0.6 mm or more is recommended for this.
But I think that the extruder can’t take it, otherwise you wouldn’t have to push it in by hand.
And since BBL doesn’t give any recommendations for printing with BDP/Wood, that will probably be the problem.

A bit late to the game, but based on printing over 20kg of PLA Wood filament over the past two years, I can assure you that they’re not all created equal, nor do they behave similarly. I personally have never had to use anything larger than a 0.4mm hardened steel nozzle, but using an example… Bambu Lab PLA Wood is something I need to rigorously dry out, even fresh out of the pack… otherwise it’s problematic. iSANMATE PLA Wood on the other hand tends to print flawlessly without additional drying straight out of its packaging. But from what I’ve seen, and aside from things like poor spooling (tangles), the key is really ensuring removal of moisture before printing, and using high enough temperatures to get a decent flow rate. I keep my minimum nozzle temp at 225C, up to a maximum of 245C. Those settings seem to work well for me.

One last thing. Wood filaments are abrasive as heck, so you could also try installing new tubing, as well as doing some filament pulls out of your hotend to ensure you’ve got a clean starting point with no remaining debris, and as minimal as possible friction in the feed tubes.

How many size nozzles should i be sure to get for my new A1?

0.4 hardened as your baseline

0.6 if you plan on doing material “filled with stuff” including glow in the dark, necessary if you don’t want random clogs

0.2 if you plan on doing miniatures or very fine text, necessary for this

0.8 if you plan on doing vases, although not necessary

Honestly you can get away with 0.4 for the vast vast majority of material.

A couple of 0.4mm hardened steel nozzles are a great start, as I find that I do well over 90% of my printing with a 0.4mm tip, and if you get hardened steel instead of stainless, you’re also set to use abrasive filaments like PLA Wood, PLA Sparkle, PLA Marble, PLA Glow, etc. All of those specialty filaments use fine particulates in the filament which wear various parts of your printer (feed tubes, feed gears… and the print head nozzle). I suggest getting two because that way if one gets damaged, you have a back up.

Beyond that, it’s really all about what types of things you plan on printing. For really fine detail work, you’ll want a 0.2mm nozzle, but also be aware that there’s a finite list of filament types that will work with that small nozzle size. If you plan on doing a lot of printing with PLA Wood, then a 0.6mm nozzle will be good for you as it will have less problems with the filament than the 0.4mm size… I’d also note that all PLA Wood filament is not made the same nor behaves the same. I can run iSANMATE PLA Wood through my 0.4mm flawlessly, yet the Bambu Lab PLA Wood constantly jams and misfeeds. It’s largely due to the size of the wood particulate in the formulation, and also the percentage of real wood particulate used in the formulation. Don’t get me wrong… Bambu Lab PLA Wood is nice filament, but it really wants a 0.6mm nozzle to print without issues.

If you do prototyping, a 0.8mm is good for doing quick (quick being a relative thing) tests to check your design… but if your design relies on fine dimensional accuracy or tolerances, then you’ll likely want to revert back to your 0.4mm.
