Would using a P1S build plate on H2D damage anything?

I’ve read a lot of posts and all of them dance around this question or suggest spacers, etc.

If I just were to plop a P1S build plate in the center of the H2D bed, would it print ? I know I could just try, but I didn’t want to damage the heater or anything. Yes, I know the print area is smaller, I’m not talking about that.

I’d just like to put my Engineering Plate in the center of the H2D’s bed and print some small parts. Could it work without damaging anything?

scratching the soft magnet

Τhat doesnt explain much for the fellow does it now?

Here’s the thing:
Normally, yes — what you’re suggesting is possible, but it requires either the ability to edit the printer’s configuration or access to adaptive bed mesh.

The concept is similar to what open firmware printers allow: you basically trick the slicer and firmware by defining a smaller bed size. The printer then behaves as if it’s working within that smaller area.

However, with the H2D, you can’t edit any of those parameters. So once the process starts, the nozzle will attempt to probe areas outside your smaller build plate — surely right onto the magnet. It won’t damage it though, since tramming is done with the bed plate off, so there’s no real risk to the magnet itself. It will just probe, not print. You wont reach the print part anyway because

On top of that, H2D printers reportedly identify plates using QR codes. If the expected QR code isn’t detected, the printer will throw an error and pause.

The bed, however, is a different story. There could be issues if your new plate is even slightly thicker, because the firmware might have hardcoded offsets or limits that don’t account for that.

Now, what can work (though it’s risky) is this:
Start the print using the original plate, and just before the print begins, swap in your custom one. But both plates must be exactly the same thickness, and even then, results may vary — they’ll never be perfect clones.

Ha, no it doesn’t… lol… It’s sort of like pointing into a parking lot and saying, “I like that car.”

Thank you. This is exactly why I asked here because I knew one of you uber gurus would have a great answer. What you say NothingHam makes complete sense. Thank you…
