Would you buy it again?

I have been 3D printing for 7yrs and after seeing what they could do and a few friend who have them I also took the plunge, P1S with AMS - within 2 weeks I have ordered a 2nd AMS and hoping thats enough but very happy with it. :ok_hand:

Never enough, my precious!

Iā€™ve been 3D printing for 10 years, but completely new to Bambu Labs printers and its software. I recently purchased the X1-C without the AMS option. If I purchase the AMS option now, does it come with ā€œeverythingā€ needed to make it work on my X1-C, including instructions? I noticed in the instruction photos that my X1-C had some missing components on the back of the my printer that were specifically needed for the AMS option.

If you got it without the AMS Iā€™m not sure if you get the little spring doo-dad (filament buffer) that meters the filament in with the AMS. Itā€™s actually not a big deal if you didnā€™t get that because many go for a setup with more than one AMS so you need the 4 to 1 combiner part (AMS hub) instead.

I got my 1st AMS as the combo deal and it did come with the little single filament metering thing but quickly saw I wanted two AMS units so had to buy the 4 to 1 combiner part to replace it.

The second AMS came with all the cabling it needed so your first one should to but verify.

Yes, the standalone AMS comes with the buffer, tubes and required cables, it has everything you need to use it immediately. It also comes with 4 empty refill spools.

Yes, aside from the multicolor printing which is my favorite feature, it also makes it so much more convenient. It takes 5 seconds to swap out a spool instead of 5 minutes, and honestly I donā€™t think I would use the printer 1/10th as much without the ams.

Thanks for the help. Just to clarify, am I correct that the AMS does not come with 4 different colored filaments as pictured on their site and simply empty spools?

-JW:

No filament, just the empty spools.

The pictures show different filaments for illustration purposes, it uses shots with different filaments and also without filaments.

To know what comes in the bismuth you scroll down towards the bottom to see the information clearly presented.

I want to buy more AMS units.

BTW if you do, know that you donā€™t need the AMS hub, it basically just acts as a Y splitter in front of the buffer.

Just saw this thread, and even thought it is old I thought Iā€™d chime in. As a teacher, the AMS is really cool and enables kids to make multi-colored prints. However, the colors are limiting based on what is in the AMS. If you make a design based on those colors it is fine. However, if you donā€™t plan ahead you have to adjust based on what is there and colors may not work.

I was also not aware of how long multi-colored prints take. That alone would make me have second thoughts about buying again. Something that might take a couple of hours to print in one color could take an entire day to print in multicolor!

For me it is 6 on one hand.half a dozen on the other. Glad I have it, but could live without it.

Well, coming from a Prusa MMU2, itā€™s a major improvement. However I think it was either intended to be a closed garden product or they didnā€™t care if it worked with all the 1kg spools out there. Never mind the investment some of us have in spools. Thatā€™s a little disappointing and makes me question their engineering ability and leadership in the company. I have had it a week and am already looking at printing mods for better spool handling. I got away from Prusa because it was more like a project than a printer. So temper your expectations a bit. I have 2 AMS units and 2 days in I designed the AMS Spool Sock for cardboard spools because I have several and didnā€™t like the hard plastic versions.

I reversed engineered prototypes for an electronics company by the rule of ā€œForm Fit and Functionā€. Itā€™s got to be the same size, holes in the same places, its got to fit all the use cases out there and it has to function the same and or better.

So I guess I expected more out of Bambu without checking first. So re-spool? Nope. Transform into another product essentially like the Hydra? No. Replace the inner bed parts to accommodate some other spools better. Probably.

I hope they make an AMS with integrated drying/heating and accommodate more spool sizes, maybe even a removable partition for bigger spools.

You donā€™t need the hub for the second AMSā€¦
An spliter is enought.

A late comment ā€¦but I have recently come over from an Ender 3V2 and the sole reason was for the multicolour print capabilityā€¦but the whole experience and ease of use is brilliant. Such a big improvement and such a joy to use, so no brainerā€¦buy the AMSā€¦!!

I think $50 is worth it for the peace of mind on a print with 2k color changes or something like that

For two AMS there is no functional difference with a splitter. 3 or 4 AMSs do need the hub. Itā€™s not a money issue.

Although you are right and I do not notice any funtionality changes, the AMS hub does have sensors at each input, not sure why or if that actually serves a purpose though.

Heck yes. Have P1S + AMS and buying 2nd AMS (even with the current update furor)

Much ado about not much. Lots of speculation about potential evil intent. One guy nailed it: Security in the industry is kinda lax. If they screw it up they lose market share and screw themselves.
