Wrongful ND Takedown on Print Profile (Orientation change only)

I had my print profile for a model removed because of a supposed rights violation on an ND license. All I did was modify the orientation of the model for printing, which doesn’t change any of the model features, scale, etc.

I even appealed this and they doubled down and stated that adjusting the orientation of the model was a violation. They stated “adjusting the orientation of the model is considered as making modifications to the geometry of the model itself.”

This is ridiculous as that’s not making a change to the geometry of the model!

More context is needed here, both from your side and from Bambu. The important thing with print profiles is that, at the end of the day, they are better than what already exists. The email is probably just another automated standard response, which is causing confusion.

What was the reason for changing the orientation? What improvements were made to your print profile?

You decided against letting the designer change the orientation. This can lead to significant problems, including misprints. There must be a good reason for this. Generally speaking, only the creator should adjust the orientation, not the person who adjusts the print profile.

For example, I have 3D models whose stability would be completely destroyed if the orientation were changed. What may seem trivial can often have important implications.

Ultimately, both the designer and Bambu are right in their decision because it is the designer’s responsibility to adjust the orientation. If you are unhappy with this, you can either do it yourself or write to them. A discussion here in the forum would not change anything. Incorrect orientation simply leads to too many misprints.

The same issue arises when print profiles with different quantities are published: This can significantly impair print quality because the print head jumps from object to object.

Is that the case here? I can’t say, but keep in mind that I have less information than you do about what this is all about.

Actually - It’s worse than I originally thought. I was the first to offer a .3mf file for this print. I downloaded the STL’s and set up the orientation of them across multiple plates. I colored the model only - and made NO other changes. The only other print profiles are from another user - and one is 50% resize. What exactly are Makerworld staff comparing my model to when they decided that I violated the ND license? This really should be reviewed by staff…

That is strange, of course, and gives the case a completely new twist. The original creator did not provide a print profile. This means that there is no specified print orientation, nor color or whatever - the claim is invalid.

Just a guess: Someone who doesn’t want to share their points or for other personal reasons has probably reported your profile.

The remaining two print profiles from other users have also been resized and rotated. The only option I see is to ping MakerWorld to make sure that a real human being actually looks into the case.

If it has a standard digital license and the uploader reports it, it will be taken down 100% of the time; even if you are making no physical changes to the model other than print orientation. I went through this with Bambu already as well and got zero clarity around how I was violating a license by uploading a model that was simply oriented differently to make it more efficient to print.
