X1 Carbon print detorioration

Hi guys! I have 1275 print hrs on my Bambulab x1C and i started to notice the a difference in wuality on one of my prints. I suddenly started to see smudging on the edge of the prints and it is consistent as I have printed the same model multiple times. Though i noticed that it only happens at a specific set height and stops at a specific set height as well. I have tried checking for debris, lubing the z lead screws and cleaning the carbon rods but the smudging does not seem to be going away. I am running out of options cause the print is about 120 grams and it is very costly to try and test it over and over again. Do you guys have an idea what it kight be?

  • Detailed description of the problem
    Printer: X1C
Slicer settings: Default Slicer setting for “Generic PLA”just changed to manual support
Filament: BLACK Kingroon PLA(i have used this on my other P1S and it does not have the same effect)

Just for context i run a print farm and i print this model consistently and it is only with this printer I am having these print quality issues.

Initially, I thought it could just be a matter of XY belt tensioning…

but the vertical pitch and change along the height points me to the z-axis bearings of the heat bed. One may have been dislocated slightly during rod cleaning.

A top bearing-spindle mismatch also frequent after spindle re-lubing usually shows earlier.

I would expect the defect to be a bit more continuous though.

Still, it is relatively easy to check. And maybe loosen and retighten the two tiny screws of the bearing holder in case of stresses incurred.

:crossed_fingers: & :four_leaf_clover:

PS: Not sure if some z-belt issues from minor captured debris under the printer could lead to this type of defect…

I know you said you run a print farm and all, but you didn’t list swapping nozzle. Just asking to confirm.

I didnt cause i woudlnt think that would be the case cause its very consistent

There doesnt seem to be anything down here

How doni check the top bearing mismatch?

During z-rod cleaning, it can happen that the rods are lifted against the bearings. Or even that the bearings are dislocated against their seating.
Sorry for the grime my dear little X1. I’ll clean you when I can…

What does it look like when the z rods are misaligned?
