X1 Carbon reboots multiple times while printing

I have had my X1 Carbon (with AMS) for almost a year now and after ~390 hours of printing, I am finally having an issue with it. The printer will reboot every now and then while printing. It resumes the print just fine and will eventually complete the print with the only issues being the blemishes where the print head stops and extra filament oozes out while the printer reboots. I have opened a ticket and the recommended solution is to disconnect and reconnect some cables. I have attempted this with one connection so far and it made no difference. I will attempt to do this with more of the cables soon.

I am posting this here because I did some internet searches about this issue and have found no examples of this happening to anyone else. I’m just curious if anyone else has experienced this and if so, how they fixed it.

Thanks!

I agree with BBL, checking all the cable connections is the first thing to do.

That doesn’t do it, it gets a little harder to figure out next steps.

Thanks for the response. I have reseated the flat cable that loops from the front of the toolhead to the back (the one that has 2 screws on each side to secure it) as well as the USB-C cable but that made no difference. Next step is to pop the back off and reseat those.

FWIW, my printer has always had that issue where sometimes when I fire it up there is a loud obnoxious fan noise coming from the back. This is not one of the 3 fans that is controllable from the display, as I tried adjusting those and it made no difference. I just turn the printer off and on until it stops. I did a search on this a while back and saw some posts saying that it wasn’t a big deal so I have been ignoring it. Not sure if that is related to this.

Just an update - i removed the back panel and disconnected/reconnected the cables marked #9 and #10 in the picture I got from support (the support message suggested doing this). I put the printer back together and ran the diagnostics and calibration just fine. When i started a print, it seemed to hang during the first layer inspection and then rebooted before the second layer was complete. When it came back up, the bottom icon on the left side had a red pip and when I tapped it, I saw the following error message: " The first layer inspection module rebooted abnormally. The inspection result may be inaccurate. [0c00 0300 0001 0009 2015 23]". This is the first time is has had a problem here, as usually it reboots well into the print.

FYI, I am just posting the updates here so if someone else has the same issue, at least there is a record of it!

Just to wrap this up, the problem was the AP board. Bambu sent a replacement and after installing it and having them update the serial number, the printer is working again!
