Hey guys, I’m new to 3d printing and have had the x1 for couple of days just practicing printing various things gs highly addictive xD so much joy!
Last night I run out of the basic pla mistletoe green I think It is which is out of stock that come with the x1 at 90% completion stage .
I have Banmbu Lab basic pla white 1kg coming this afternoon, would it be possible be able to use this filament to finish the last 10% of the print or does it have the be the same original fliament that was used aka the green?
I’ve read something about shift layer is this still a thing, should this be an issue?
What the correct procedure/steps I need to take to replace the filament?
I have not turned the x1 off it’s at 42 nozzle and 35 bed degrees temperature.
If the printer is still on and waiting for filament you should be able to continue the print with a similar filament. I have had success with this in the past.
My record is just over 11 hours. Ran out part way through, ordered another spool from Amazon same day delivery, received it 11 hours later and resumed the print. It was overture pla, not Bambu.
In your case, I don’t know if it will work. Typically it has to be an exact match. Same color, same material. You can try but I suspect it will complain. If it were non Bambu, you just lie to the printer, telling it the replacement spool is identical. With Bambu’s rfid, I don’t think you can do that. Maybe you can spoof it by turning update on insertion off? If it works, it would assume it’s the same and continue printing. Maybe you can edit the color after you load it? Maybe there is an option to ignore a color change I don’t know about?
It sounds like the X1 should have a filament sensor to pause the print when filament runs out. My Dremel printer does and allows me to change out the spool and restart.
I would think my X1 would also but mine just keeps running like there was filament still running out and completes the project. As a result the failed print I have to make sure enough filament on the spool prior to start and then I have a lot of spools with some left.
I contact technical at bambu and have yet to receive an answer.
Have a great day
The X1 has multiple sensors, at least one is for run out. There’s one in the feeder in the AMS, one in the hub under the AMS, one in the buffer on the back on the printer and one in the extruder. One of those should catch the run out and stop it with a message. I’m a bit distracted at the moment so I’m not going to say which one ‘cause I’ll get it wrong but it sounds like one of yours is stuck. Stuck sensors happen kinda often, they are small.
