Alright, I’m now experiencing the issue in the title - the X1C is attempting to load filament from a singular AMS H/T, but fails to do so. The setup tries to load, it pushes filament all the way into the tool head, the extruder grips it, but then after 2-3 seconds, pushes it back/out, and then the process repeats 4-5 times before giving a failure error.
If I manually push filament into the tool head while the power is off, and turn the machine on, it comes up as filament is loaded and will print fine!
I’ve tried trimming/replacing PTFE tubes, multiple AMS H/T units, curved guides at the tool head - nothing seems to be working.
I have 2 thoughts. On my X1C I had to install a ptfe guide on the tool head or I would get the same thing you are. Also, on a friend’s his filament sensor in the tool head was bad preventing the filament from loading all the way.
Ams is at bottom left - main feed goes through coupling before hitting buffer then into a y coupling which has other line in from TPU assist then to tool head
Black tape is on as at one point, pressure on the buffer seemed to allow the filament to feed, but must have been a fluke as doesn’t work now.
I get multiple different error codes, such as extruder clogged, error loading filament, etc.. I have replaced both the extruder and the hotend, and the same thing is happening. Had one person from the facebook group say it has to do with the new firmware 1.12 so I researched and rolled back to 1.10 it made it through one print and started again.
I think @mltriebe is on the right track. Going into the extruder the PTFE is bent fairly sharply. The PTFE is a larger ID than the filament OD so the filament can tilt to the side a little and catch on the inside of the fitting leading into the extruder.
I sometimes get filament that does the same thing. I’ve found if I just straighten the PTFE at the extruder slightly it goes right in. That’s also probably a good diagnostic too. If straightening the PTFE slightly fixes it, there are little prints that help straighten the entry into the extruder.
Propping open the top glass may also reduce the tube bending enough but the little straightener thing is probably the way to go if any of this fixes the issue.
