X1C Idler Pulleys

Hi,

Is the Z-Axis idler pulley the same as the X/Y idler pulleys? Are they interchangeable?

TIA

Hi @Lance69, they do appear to be, but I have not found text explicitly stating they’re both the same part number. We can, however, deduct from the store and the replacement guide that they are.

That is a very good question. I also couldn’t find any where that mentioned the two idler pulleys are interchangeable. To me the look like they “should” be.

Perhaps @SupportAssistant can clarify?

Hi @Kioto,

Thank you for the reply.

I tend to agree, I just wish there was something a little more definitive about it.

Unless I missed something, both of the links you shared refer to the X/Y pulleys only. What part suggests to you that they’re the same?

Here is the picture from the wiki for the z belt replacement. It looks very similar.

Hi @Lance69, you’re right, I did all the research but did not include all the reference data. To answer your question, I went by the appearance of them, both in their tensioner forms:

And idler itself:

As well as the XY + Z maintenance guides for replacing them, I linked the XY previously, here’s for the Z:

Ultimately, while I believe the idler itself is the same for all 3 idler pulleys, you’re better off just buying the separate tensioners, it’s really not worth swapping the pulleys themselves in my opinion.

Hi Kioto.

I actually pulled the tensioner apart yesterday and found the bearing inside the pulley was binding. I soaked it in IPA for a while and oiled it well, but I think it’s not quite right yet. It’s quieter, but I’m still getting errors.

I agree that ordering the whole tensioner is the way to go, but if I order it from BL I have to pay shipping, and if I order from Amazon I have to wait a month.

I ordered a pack of 4 pulleys from Amazon that’ll be here tomorrow. I’ll let you know for sure if they fit when I get to it, which should be Sunday or Monday.

I also ordered the tensioner that will be here in a month.

Thanks for your help. I appreciate your time.

Does it look like the tensioners can be printed for a temp fix? I guess that if your printer is down it doesn’t really matter…

That’s a really good idea! And it looks like there is a model for a modified Z belt tensioner.

My H2D will be printing this in the morning.

Thanks!
