Hi all, new here to the forum and newer to the 3D print community. I have an X1C that just started having printing issues. I just upgraded to the most recent firmware this morning to see if there would be any improvement - none. A couple observations to start and will provide photos as I get them. I have had the printer over a year with zero issues prior and good results on prints. I use print files from others, nothing that I have created on my own, with similar results across the board. Never used a dryer until today - will post results later. One thing i have noticed consistently lately is that the test/reference elements do not seem to be printing correctly. The multiline element near the door seems to vary in line width. The rear “L” shape item does not even print, or stay on the plate when it does. I have seen a lot of “blobbing” also where there is a huge chunk of melted filament, but no item on the plate. Some results seem like they just don’t stick to the plate. I have washed the plate with Dawn. I am going through the process of elimination steps. Currently use mainly PLA silk filament. Sorry for the long first post, just looking for any advice and really did not find anything in the forums. Thank you in advance for any guidance.
IIRC, that rear prime line was removed and everything is done up front now on the X1 series. As far as the line width varying, that would make sense as it’s calibrating the flow. It will try different settings and then scan them to determine the correct settings, so they will not all look the same.
Thank you for your insight - makes sense.
Hi all, here is a follow up to the original post with some photos for reference:
These 4 are from a couple days ago, after the filament was dried for 6 hours. Stopped printing before completion of first layer.
This was from last night after I completed a thorough nozzle cleaning as I noticed blobs of filament lodged in the protective boot area. Same file as above was used.
Not sure on settings, but will look at the file and post them later.
Thanks again in advance for any input and suggestions.
The test pattern at the front of the plate is fine.
The pictures of your prints show poor adhesion on the first layer. Wash your plate with warm water and dishwashing detergent, dry it with a clean towel. Do not touch the plate surface.
Firmware updates come with “Release Notes” that describe the changes that have been made. If you have a printing issue and you’re hoping the new release fixes it, read the release notes. Updating for the sake of updating is never the best idea. Even if there is no issue with the update, the process itself has (low) non-zero risk of bricking the hardware.
Recommended best practice: Only update if you have a reason to update.
My X1C is still running on FW from mid last year. Haven’t had a problem to justify updating. So I also haven’t had all the problems people who have update have reported.
Thank you for your response. We currently do that. There have not been any adhesion issues until recently. I will keep searching for a solution.
Thank you for your response. I had read elsewhere that the prior release caused a couple issues, which I could not remember when the last update occurred. It was a shot in the dark as nothing else appear to be wrong with the printer. I will keep searching for a solution.
Have ypu tried a different filament yet?
