x1CC - can I set it up without the AMS to start with?

Howdy mates!!!
Sweden here, very, very happy to join you mates in the forum.
Total noob/newbie so I am filled to the brim with questions before my X1CC arrives

Can I start by setting it up without the AMS when it arrives and thus only one roll of filament?
Should I choose something special in the setup software if so, and is that easily reverted when I add the AMS on?

Also I´’m trying to read up on filaments, I am most interested in printing with PetG so I want to order a few rolls of that and also PLA+, from what I understand from here is eSUN the best choice of brand?
(Bambu Labs filaments is out of stock everytime I check the page, but at least for now I want a substitute that makes best possible printouts thus I turn to you experienced forum mates)

UPDATE; My printer has crossed over this side of the border! WOHOOO I simply cant wait… tenting next to the mailbox until my precious arrives It will be my first time seeing a 3D printer up close

Really there is no worries regarding “external usage of one spool of filament” versus “putting an AMS in place at some point”.
You’ll be fine whatever you do.
You can plug the AMS anytime.
You can alternate usages.
You can use AMS with only one spool or several ones.
and so on.

A few recommandations however :

  • if you plan to switch often between “external spool” and “usage of AMS”, you should consider putting in place a “Y-SPLITTER” like this one : Bambu Y splitter with pneumatic connectors
  • If you plan to use several AMS later in the future, you may consider buying and putting in place the AMS HUB from the beginning (just to avoid extra PTFE tubes re-connections in the future) : Bambu Lab AMS Hub | Bambu Lab EU This is the only thing that need to be bought in order to put in place a second (third, fourth) AMS (by replacing the “filament buffer” smaller device packaged with each AMS)

Regarding spool of filaments, you should refer to that GOOGLE SHEET containing a matrix of compatibilities with AMS and various manufacturers of filaments (many ones are not compatible with the AMS - cardboard, or too wide - and should be avoided, except if you are ready to “refill” the filament in an empty spool (4 are provided with the AMS).

Thank you mate, that was some awesome valuable information!

I will print that Y splitter first thing, than I will order and place the AMS HUB in order to future proof my new treasure! :gift_heart:
