X1E chamer heater underpowered. Very disappointing

Just got my X1E today.
Still early in the test print phase, but the enclosure is sooooo sloooooow to heat up. Even if pre-heated it takes way tool to get from 56C to 60C so printing can begin.

I have other printers that I modded with inexpensive heaters. They reach target temp far faster. For a machine with a $1000 premium over the X1C, I expected far better.

Yeah what do you expect. It’s a hobbyist printer with a markup.

I expect it to be able to reach 60C as advertised. The heater is staying on continuously during the print - bed is at 90C. Enclosure temp is holding steady at 57C. It’s in my garage, but I have enough 3D printers running in there that it stays warm. 73F/23C in there right now and the machine can’t hit target temp. I have the chamber fan disabled. Aux fan at 10% just to keep the air circulating.

Well it just threw an error. “Chamber heating failed …”
[0300 9000 0001 0002 1725 19] - but that number doesn’t turn up in the support wiki. Guess it’s time to submit a ticket. Maybe I have a bad unit. I hope that’s the case … otherwise this heater is just pathetic.

It will. Based on ambient and what not. I have no doubt it would. With the build plate maxed out.

I know the X1 with just the heated can hit 47c and that’s with an 17.7c ambiant. If I remember right the onboard sensor was reading 52c so not far off an actual accurate temp. I’m pretty sure the chamber temp was with no exhaust fan and the build plate set to 120c.

I seen people get some nice results with 3mm reflective Insolation. I never done a X1 I hate it and it just sits "evulation unit we got for work but failed the first round of testing so I was told to toss it so I took it home to use the enclosure for a side project I never ended up doing. Personally if you need more temps I would just get some Insolation. They use a 380w ptc and I know there under driving it to keep it cooler so it doesn’t deform anything in that area.

Did your X1E not come with a service agreement from the distributor that you bought it from? My understanding was that was what the majority of the market was to cover.

I bought from MatterHackers. I don’t see any mention of a service agreement on their product listing or associated with my order.

Theres a reason why this printer gets 0 hype. I mean, Bambu didnt even see enough action to warrant a sub-catagory here for it. The normal x1c should have had a real “temperature controlled chamber” like advertised. Then there would have been 0 reason for the x1e.

Im sorry youre having problems. I would just start the ticket process and hope it goes smoothly.

They can’t rub that heater too much or it’s going to melt stuff in it. Trade off is longer heating. Then I get why they’re doing that for safety reasons and they don’t want to replace parts of deform due to heat.

I have started a support ticket on this issue. I have a work around for now since this is clearly a g-code or firmware issue. I

n Studio, before you slice, set the chamber temp for your filament to 0 and the exhaust fan to 20%. After the print starts you can manually turn the chamber temp up to whatever you want but be sure to turn the exhaust fan to 100%. It will overheat quickly with no way to cool it with the chamber fan to low. I have found these settings get the chamber up to temp quickly. This has to be done for every filament separately. hopefully this helps.

I have a print going right now using this method and it has been holding 60 c quite well. Before, trying to use the slicer to do it I got the same error you did. The problem is the exhaust fan shuts off. The screen may say it is running but it is not. I am by no means an expert on anything Bambu or 3d printing for that matter so

Maybe this is why it’s called “chamber fan” instead of “exhaust fan”? i.e. it mainly circulates the air to even out the temperature inside far more than exhausting it.

Let us know how quickly they respond to your ticket. My guess is: right away. I think the X1E is at least partially an experiment into how to provide priority support to corporate buyers (spoiler: by charging them in advance for it).

" 1 The purchase of MatterHackers Launchpad includes access to our exclusive launchpad service, available for 3 months after delivery, designed to assist you in getting started with your new machine."

More than likely you have fast response technical support at your fingertips.

Bambu replaced my machine under warranty. The replacement has been OK. I run the aux fan around 20% so heat doesn’t bubble at the top. I have been keeping the chamber fan at zero.

I still get some pauses due to slow heating. If I preheat it’s been working fine. I haven’t had any overheating issues.

I need to update the start script to start the bed heat before chamber heat. No reason not to have the bed on while the chamber is heating.

Adding a heater and an Ethernet port doesn’t make it different enough to need a subforum. 95% of its function and settings are the same as the X1C.
