I just tried the first print using the aux (right) nozzle as an interface layer for supports. Main print was PLA and used PETG for that interface layer.
So overall, the print came out fine, no issues. However, the purge tower was horrible. Also, the PETG has somehow deposited little bits all over the printer(side walls, bed, etc).
My question: Is this normal? I’m happy the print was fine but should not have done this or do I have some setting messed up? I did notice that when the purge layer was being printed in PETG, it seemed to poop on the corner before it actually moved and did purge lines.
Howdy! it’s fairly normal, depending on a few things. first question is did you dry out your spool of PETG before printing? Also did you change your flow ratio for the PETG before printing?
I did not. It was a brand new roll, opened the package and immediately started the print.
And also no, I added the interface layer and assigned petg and that was about it. It did have a pop up at asked to change settings for the PETG on aux nozzle, so I said yes to that
IIRC, the prime lines one the prime tower are due to the different adhesiveness categories (filament settings) and are intended to force dissimilar material to bond well enough to not callapse the prime tower. They should even show up in the preview.
Drying filament is a hassle, but PETG really does benefit from it. A spool might arrive dry, but you won’t know until you either get a poor print or weigh it before and after drying.
I just dried a spool of Sunlu High‑Speed PETG. The factory seal felt solid, no signs of leakage. Out of the box it weighed 1175.1 g. After 8 hours of drying, it dropped to 1173.5 g.
That’s actually pretty good — very little moisture in that batch. But other spools can vary a lot, even from the same brand. Best practice is simple: always dry PETG at least once so you know you’re starting from a known-good baseline.
