X2D – Left Nozzle Continued Printing and Covered the Left Side in PETG

Hello everyone,

Unfortunately, I had an issue with my X2D today. Something got stuck, and the left nozzle simply kept printing, so now the entire left half is covered in PETG. Please see the pictures.

I already have a new Hot End and a Hotend Heating Assembly – Left – X2D in my shopping cart.

Do I need anything else to repair this?

I had a similar incident lately. In the end I replaced the heating assembly and hotend. I should also have ordered some extra silicone sock! Have a look if yours still looks fine or you better want a new one.

Replacing the heating assembly is not trivial unfortunately. Especially removing the print head housing is really stupidly difficult. The middle part has to be lifted sideways on the left side. Then, to remove it on the right side, you have to turn it almost 90°, otherwise it won’t come out under the bottom X-shaft. you have to uncomfortably bend the plastic parts.
I also detached the right fan accidentally and I think I bent something. I sits well again but with some better instructions about how to correctly remove the middle housing part, that wouldn’t have happened.
When you are already at it, it is not much extra steps to open the main extruder for cleaning the filament drive gears. I realized that right when everything was assembled again. And there certainly is still some stripped filament in the gear grooves :squinting_face_with_tongue:

Oh, and one more tip: The screws for the filament cutter levers sit really tight and need a lot of force. The hex keys that came with the printer are a little bit loose and they slipped through on one screw. I used different hex keys from a set that where better tolerated and I was able to remove the screw. So if you have good hex keys, better use those.

+1 for a new sock, anytime you get a blob o death, just go for a new sock, its cheap and worth it.

While you’re in the store, pick up a spare Flow Blocker if you dont have a second on hand. That thing is both fiddly and crucial for clean prints out of the X2d and you will curse your life if you bend/break it lol
